The elephant in the room (contains spoilers)

Anyone that watched the recent Austrian Grand Prix knows that one particular event changed the course of the entire race. Actually, many events did! From Oscar Piastri's Qualifying Penalty to Max's slow pit stop (6.5s), many small things contributed to an eventful race that was one to remember. Comment below if Austria's also one of your favorite tracks

But the moment everyone will remember a year from now will be the clash between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. After Norris began to close in, the final round of pit stops began, and lo and behold, Max Verstappen's pit crew made a rare mistake that caused a loss of over 4 seconds to Lando. The gap was down to 3 seconds, 2 seconds, 1 second before we knew it. Norris sensed victory and was going to go for it. Lap after lap he attempted to attack, often going for bold moves in the world-famous 3rd corner. Once, he dove for it from afar and skidded off the track, having to give the place back. Next, he tried the inside line but pushed Verstappen off. Other times he was just a few feet/meters away, but Verstappen firmly defended the position.

And then it happened: https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article/must-see-huge-drama-in-austria-as-verstappen-and-norris-collide-while.2O8jvDPthMBPbV8Jd62gLB

As Lando aggressively marked his spot on the outside, they both closed on each other, and one thud and famous corner later, both were off the track with tires punctured and debris flying off the cars. As both cars hobbled across the hallowed Austrian corners, being overtaken by lapped cars, a sense of anger and disappointment grew among both teams. Max managed to pit and go on to finish the race in 5th. Norris's car picked up sufficient damage to not be able to race on. George Russell, who was seemingly just cruising to a 3rd place finish, took the win, followed by a close battle between Piastri and Sainz for 2nd and 3rd. 4th went to Lewis Hamilton, with Verstappen in 5th and a superstar Hulkenberg holding off Perez to take 6th. 8th also went to the Haas of Kevin Magnussen, with Daniel Ricciardo and Pierre Gasly rounding out the top 10. After a 1st corner incident, Leclerc only managed 11th.

It was truly a race to watch, and I highly recommend rewatching the highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0yb1zH2m7c
