UI Suggestion - Hide inactive periods in graphs

Thing is it messes with the x-axis. They are just showing the data
True, but it would be showing a different perspective. The graph below is generated from the same data:
It shows rating changes following games played with stripes showing how many games were played within a month. The difference is ratings over time vs. rating changes following activity.
Since all the stats graphs (ratings and puzzles) are shown by an absolute date range there can be long flat lines due to inactive periods.
Would it be better if, either by default or switch, inactive periods could be hidden since they don't really add anything?
