Up / Down votes have come to chess.com?

I just noticed on another message thread, it looks like you can now upvote/downvote comments left in message threads??

I apologize if I missed some announcement, but I hadn't seen anything about this until now (aside from it occasionally being a suggestion) -- is this a "trial run" or just for beta or now released across the whole website??

I think it's a great thing to try. As to whether or not it really works as intended here will depend on how the community responds to it. There are some websites where a system of up/down votes really works well -- and there are others (*cough*, like duolingo) where the communities are so toxic nearly every comment gets strongly downvoted, even when folks are just asking an innocent question, etc.

I hope it "jives" with the community here. I'm glad the devs are at least giving it a try!!

Ah, very cool. I do see that there was at least one related topic to this posted recently  (about the sorting functionality), but I must have missed the formal announcement, if there was one...

I guess my question is whether this is across the whole site or just active for beta users. More out of curiosity than anything else.

It might just be a beta thing for now to see how popular it is

What do you guys think? should we get a notification for upvotes or downvotes on the comments or posts we write?

I suspect that setting it up this way would cause you to drown in notifications -- there'd be so many alerts for every single click it would just turn in to noise.

*maybe* an alert for passing some intrrval, like reaching +10 or +100 or something like that.  But even that seems a little silly. To me, at least.

It is Beta.

Reactions (when you select an emoji) are available to everyone.

Upvoting/downvoting + sorting by Newest/Oldest + filtering by Relevance is Beta.

Reactions are not anonymous. Upvoting/downvoting is anonymous.

So, when you put or under someone's comment or post, they can see your username when hover that emoji (if the list is short). But when you upvote or downvote, they see a number only: upvotes minus downvotes.

Chess.com is finally embracing the reality that it is essentially a social media site.

its beta? well we never got any news or updates on it happening and people outside were also surprised to see it as well

Not all changes get posts by staff or notifications.
