What is Live Chess Match Play?

Live Chess Match Play pits countries vs countries in live chess club matches, in competitions including the Live Chess World League, Pan American Live Chess League, and Chess.com Nations League. Each match, you will represent the USA against a player from another country in a two-game mini-match.

When are USChess's Live Chess Matches?

USChess normally has 2-3 live chess matches per week that typically take place on weekends. The exact dates and times of our live chess matches will be announced midweek. The complete calendar of upcoming USChess live chess matches will always be available on the club homepage, in the internal club description, under the header "Upcoming Live Chess Matches". Keep up to date on all upcoming matches and other live chess match play news in the USChess Live Chess Match Play Discussion forum.

You can also access the USChess Live Matches Google Calendar here: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/0?cid=dmVjYnNwc2cyZ2Y1NjN0cWdrYWhwdXFhb2tAZ3JvdXAuY2FsZW5kYXIuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbQ

How do I play in USChess's Live Chess Matches?

When the time and date of a live chess match comes, click on the Match Link, and then click the "Join" button. Your games will start automatically when the match starts.

You do not need a USCF membership to play in these matches.

What are the Live Chess World League (LCWL), Pan American Live Chess League (LCPAL), and Chess.com Nations League?

What time control are these Live Chess Matches?

These live chess matches are played at a wide range of time controls to accommodate a variety of players. This includes Rapid (15+2 and 10+2), Blitz (5+2), and Bullet (2+1 and 1+1).

What is the multi-team player rule?

The multi-team player rule mandates that each individual player may only play for ONE team every live chess season. This means that if you play a live chess match for USChess, you may not play a live chess match for any other national club. Violation of the multi-team player rule may result in removal or bans from this club.

If you have any questions, ask below! Please play as many matches as is reasonable, compete, and have fun!

As long as you are only competing with one team in any particular league, you can participate in both teams. USChess will generally be competing against other countries, so I think you should be okay.

Links to matches are always available on the club homepage under "Upcoming Live Chess Matches". See comment #9 in this forum for a screenshot of where to find that.

When the time and date of a match comes, simply click on the match link provided, then click the orange "Join" button to play in the match.

What is the difference between LCWL and Nations League? Seems redundant.

The Nations League is the official Chess.com competition for official national federation clubs (typically recently-founded), while the LCWL is a competition for long-standing 'semi-official' country clubs.

Most countries either have a 'semi-official' country club and a separate national federation club (e.g. "Team Romania" and "Romania Chess Federation" on Chess.com), or no separate national federation club at all. We are in the unique situation of our country club's live team (Team USA Live) having merged its activities into this club, which is the national federation club. Thus we participate in both the competition for national federation clubs and for country clubs.
