Giving membership 4 free is almost never a good idea. I approve adding slight benefits, but not the membership.
I think for legends league you should be able to compete in premium-only tournaments and arenas like 1|1 Bullet so it's not premium but it is something and if you already have premium and you get legends league it would just get like a reward of some sorts like a 5-day extension of the premium membership.

That's not going to happen because it means nothing to anyone who already has premium. For diamond that's a 2.25 USD value. I wouldn't even consider that a prize with or without membership already.
What's chess.com going to do? Refund me 1.50 USD for a week of my platinum purchase?

So essentially free members get premium perks and premium members get a check for $1.60? I understand wanting more with the legend league, but we have to be realistic here.

My understanding is staff are thinking through ideas on how make leagues better.

The point was to say "if everyone in legend got diamond then this amount of money is lost." your right, not everyone in legend has diamond, just the math was meant as a "what if"
Players want something next after legend league, or there should be some prizes at least.
