Vote Chess Bug Warning

I made following observation in my clubs Vote Chess matches:

- people entered who were not in my club

- even worse: they were banned from that club

This means to me:

check in your VC matches who has entered and if they are members of your club!

It seems that banned members are able to enter

AND THEY DO IT!!

I had 2 cases and have removed them both.

Is it possible for a (banned) member who quits a club to still be banned as such? I think quitting lifts the ban & that was identified as a problem last year if I remember.

And if a member joins a VC game but subsequently quits the club, are they removed from the game or do they still appear on the team members' list? I'm not too sure how things work in V3

That members were never in the club but banned as cautious action that they do not enter by mistake.

Nope, they are not

O/k, thanks for making that clear. I've only ever needed to ban existing members & I hadn't realised you can ban (site) members who are not club members. I'll try to remember that - useful for keeping 'undesirables' out  wink.png

I think that option has been removed now. Since after those people were unbanned, they were added as a member of that club

no, its not removed. And I am happy that not.

manage club -> ban a member

here you can fill in every chess.com member and he/she will be banned

Avatar of edr0nt

It has its positives and negatives

Positives- Keeps out trolls and other members you don't want to join

Negatives- After someone unbans them, they're automatically added as a member of the club, unwillingly for the member (That's what I've heard, I've never tried it)

But Prophetess, after un-banning such a person have you noticed that they automatically become members of your club?

Avatar of Andrea

No, they are not.

After unbanning them, they are out of the club.

Prophetess, have you reported this problem as per request in #2?

Avatar of Andrea

Of course, why asking?

Because you haven't responded to davidkaufmann in any way here & I thought you might have overlooked his post, that's all.

As far as I Know, when someone is banned he or she continues to play team matches and vote chess games in progress (the same happens when the player leaves the club voluntarily). However, it is possible for an admin to remove anyone banned or not from an ongoing vote chess game (tab Members, hover the cursor on their name, click on the "x").

Once a banned member was able to register and participate in a team match. I do not know if this still happens. Also that same person later on asked me to remove him from the list of banned players because chess.com was not allowing him to play against my team. So, somehow chess.com still considered him a member of my club at the time. Recently I was banned from Earthlings United, a club I've never been a member of. From then on, I was prevented from commenting on a team match between my club and the club that banned me preventively (it looks like somehow I was being considered a member of Earthlings United). The problem was solved only after an action by Eric.

Yes, there were issues with the ban function , I thought they were solved. This VC one is new to me.

In my case people joined my clubs VC although they were never part of my club. So it seems that banned members are becoming "member" by banning.

Hope it will be solved.

I have removed them anyway, but wonder why they entered, they know that they are no members.

The good thing is, once removed from a VC re-entering is not possible wink.png
