Vote Chess Discussion and Requests

Hi All,

I would like to set up a few more vote chess games as it is a perfect way to learn and practice an opening.

But before that I would like to find out a few things:

1) would you like to play vote chess? happy.png
I am just wondering how many vote chess games we should run simultaneously. If there are not that many people, who are interested in vote chess, then we should not have too many at the same time.

2) which lines would you like to try out / learn?

3) would you like to try out the French Defence from the other side?
Meaning, playing with white against the French Defence.

4) Do you have any questions or suggestions about vote chess?

Thanks,
Peter

@Crick3t:

I actually favor setting aiming to set up a vote chess match for all of the various major French openings ( If other folks are like me, we tend to settle into 2-3 openings that we are comfortable playing and tend to go deep on the various self contained lines, set ups and type of middle game set ups that these lead to until we have a comfort level ).  I think it would benefit me to explore other openings.  I personally have only focused on playing from Black's side ( as I like the idea of not behaving as one expects from the opposite end but I am sure I could benefit from learning to play from both White and Black.    I personally do not like pre-set ups for Vote Matches ( as in real games there is no guarantee that you opponent is going to respond as expected, but I will leave that to you folks to determine ) happy.png.   Looking forward to playing alongside and learning with/from my club colleagues.   My only strong preference would be that we first focus on playing the various openings as black, try to cover the breadth of the majors before we turn our attention to playing as white wink.png.

I agree with silledad. I hope to learn many ideas in our upcoming vote chess matches.happy.png

I think we would need to set up the games at least with 1. e4 e6, as this group is an opening specific one. So if someone joins us then they would expect to learn about French Defence.

But I agree picking a rare side line 10-15 moves in the game is not the best idea.

Playing it with white was also just an idea. When I play as white and my opponent plays the French defence, I always try to go into lines that usually cause issues to me. Worst case I can learn how to get out of it. happy.png

I really like playing VC, especially with the French Defence. However, when in a VC team with people not used to the French, it can be a struggle because they find many of the typical moves to be counterintuitive.

Currently, I have a full load of VC games, plus I'm going on vacation in August for a couple of weeks. When I get back, I would really enjoy some Winawer PPV games.

i prefer to see the winwar "its kinda of a fun line"  and the tarrasch. i would like to see them played by white and black sides. i believe the tarrasch is one of the strongest option for white.    ohh grand master simon williams is pretty good with the french, should you guys should look at his study's

Can we get a couple of more games. We now have three - and two of them are virtually over.

We discussed earlier a game with classical & a game with Tarrasch. We also discussed challenging Zen wanderers to a rematch, with us as white.

Hi All,

I completely agree with you guys, I also think that we should be/could be more organized.
Sorry for me not being here, I just came back from holiday. Also another admin created this game and somehow I missed it and did not join to "supervise" it.

We have a not too strict vote chess policy at the moment:
https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/our-vote-chess-policy

When I became an admin one of my main goals was to improve vote chess in this group. As I am also admin organising vote chess games in other groups, I know what you are talking about and what other successful vote chess teams doing. On the other hand when I tried to introduce rules I bumped into quite a few people opposing it, but maybe it is time to try to introduce rules again. happy.png

The lucky thing and advantage of this group is the number of people. Even if there are a few bad apples, it was working fine until now, as the majority of the players are disciplined and easily outvote them. Because of this I sort of gave up on strictly regulating the vote chess here, but if you think it is necessary then I am happy to help with that. happy.png

P.S.: we should continue this conversation in the forum, instead. I have added this comment to this forum: https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/vote-chess-discussion-and-requests

I would appreciate stricter rules. It is extremely demotivating to eagerly discuss moves and lines only to see numerous early random votes after having eventually cast your vote.

Agreed. Crick3t I've played with you before in other vote chess teams, I think you know how they work:

- Only vote on moves discussed on the game forum (and not clearly refuted by the discussion)

- Do not vote before the last 24 or 30 hours. It is better not to vote at all, than vote for a wrong move.

- On the 24hr mark the captain (if there is one) sums up the team consensus and calls for voting

- Offenders get one warning by private mail, on second offense they are expelled from the game by the admin in charge

These rules can be alleviated in case of obvious reply or during the opening, when there are several good alternate lines available.
