@All.  There are a few things that were historically always good about this club and along with you guys I will look to get up and running again asap ( for example ...Internal Tournaments, Matches against other clubs, Vote Chess Matches, Posting regular puzzles ) but I wanted to quickly poll the group to get feedback on what you guys feel you would most like to see.

Please list your top five items you would put at the top of the list that you want us to get started asap ( and don't worry if the list goes over 5 happy.png the more feedback the better ).

@Spochman was a fine coach.  I took a ten lesson package plan and learned a lot.  His two books are a unique treatise on positional evaluation.

He taught me to get out of my opening "routine" and try new openings that I may develop a better prowess of opening principles.  Sometimes, I would make an opening move and when asked, "Why?" I simply responded, "Well, that is often played in the London System".  He asked, "Why?" again and I had no real answer.

Hence, I might consider a VC game of openings we have never played for the purpose of applying opening principles  rather than memorized lines.

I think this would honor  @Spochman and who knows, he might chime in?

Sorry, but just one so far...   -Two Cents

I haven't had many chess lessons, which probably explains part of why I'm not very good, but @Spochman was my first coach. I enjoyed the lessons, but I didn't put his suggestions into practice sufficiently. I'd like to see suggestions on how to best analyze one's own games. Examples would be great. Thanks.

Live tournaments.

@Chess4Him:  I am hoping that he is able to do more than Chime in at some point in the future.  Great post and great insight into the spirit of his approach/part of what he aimed to teach.   I noticed that a few months ago he was indeed creating internal themed tournaments based on different openings ( I jumped into the Italian Game tournament which is still ongoing ) happy.png.  I think that is a great idea and continuance of what he was doing.

@tewald:  How to best analyze your games is another great idea.  This is often talked about but seldom explained;  and, cited as a key for improvement by pretty much all players ( from those whom are titled to those whom have made significant significant recent progress in their quest to improve).

@vladioc:  I like the idea of live tournaments.  Historically from what I have observed they are tricky to get going/keep going; but, I am all for canvassing the club members and putting some together to see if we can successfully get a few off the ground ( and based on that see where we can go ).

Country_Gravy

tournaments for the group.  Both regular and opening themed daily (not live) chess.

Well I thought I would go on and add my 2 cents as well.  I joined this club because I really benefited from Phil's teaching videos, and personal lessons. His teaching videos are great tools and I have learned a lot about positional play and the reasons for it. The Themed unrated tourneys are very good too IMHO,  a great way to learn different openings without the cost of rating.  I really appreciate the tools that are being presented lately, puzzles and videos.   I hope that @Spochman is ok and can get back sometime, regardless.  Thanks for your efforts silledad.

Many thanks to you as well TheSultan31003
