Yeah, too bad - after I first posted in this thread, I checked, and saw that he had already left. It seems he had made up his mind already, and didn't stick around to hear what people had to say. I would have hoped he'd have participated in the discussion he sparked. Well, you can't please everyone. That's life. Smile

That's to bad. I wish the best to him. I can't agree with his "Neville Chamberlain" sort of attitude, but I still wish the best to him.

I'm not happy at all Dahan. You forced me to google a reference I did'nt understand much earlier in the morning than I usually like to. I like the reference now though.Smile

Lol! Oh no! I've created another schism in our little community! Glad it looks like it may turn out OK, though. :)

EV13, I realize you've left the group but I'll respond to your gibberish anyway in the hopes that you are still lurking:

So then why do we care so much about disproving God? Wouldn't that make us as "bad" as the various religious groups out there that go preaching what they think is right an we know (believe) is wrong?

Disprove God? How would someone even try to do that? You can't "disprove" god, just like you can't disprove Santa Claus. All you can do is cast doubts on any evidence given for their existence. For example if someone said the presents under the tree on Christmas morning was evidence for Santa, you could cast doubt on this by pointing out that those presents have been sitting in the hall closet for the last month. You hardly need to resort to a magical man with a sleigh, workshop, elves, and reindeer to explain how they traveled 20 feet to the tree overnight while no one was looking...

Through reading the forums I've found them to be a bit negative. It's no wonder religious types don't often listen to some of the reasoning I've read; they're tired of constantly being shot down.

If someone is tired of having their ideas being constantly shot down, maybe they should try different ideas. Your comment reminds me of people who blame whistle blowers for the problems they blow the whistle on. Your blaming the fact that the emperor has no clothes on the boy who pointed it out!

If you're confident in what you believe in, then there's no need for going and starting an argument about it. It's similar to war. It makes sense to fight if you're being attacked, but not the other way around.

If you think a conversation, even a heated one involving peoples cherished ideals, resembles war; I suggest you have no idea what war is.

I'm highly considering leaving this group because of the skewed message it gives people about what atheism is.An atheist isn't "Godless". That would mean there used to be a god which is now gone, and that kind of doesn't fit with the belief. An atheist isn't against anything, and atheist disbelieves. It's not a contest, it's a lifestyle.

So you have decided for the rest of us what an atheist is and isn't? For some people atheism is an act of rebellion, for others it could be a lifestyle. For me it is just a convenient word I can use to give someone a general idea of my religious convictions without having to get into a 20 minute philosophical discussion. Also your "post-n-bail" routine was pretty funny.  It might be a stretch for me to even suggest this, but I find myself wondering if this post-n-bail was your intent all along...
