Worth Adding a Classic Time Control?

In addition to Blitz and Rapid, why not also have a Classic time control?

Maybe for time controls of 25-30 minutes or more?

ricorat

I would like a classical time control as i play a lot of 30|0

HowFaresTheKing

I think more players would use those controls more if there were a separate rating.

Plus, it's great for learning! If you can't find the right move with lots of time, you definitely can't find it under time pressure.

Yes, it is worth it.

Right now, I don't play any classical chess, but if a new category is introduced, that will probably change

What's the point of quoting a comment and saying nothing else?

To show that you agree

Iceflake07

HowFaresTheKing :That is a +100 idea especially taking into consideration KnightAttack1567's response. I am even a better candidate than Knight because I play zero chess.com OTB now but would try 30/0 if it was a  progress-measurable stat. I wonder if the issue is that popularized 30/0 would threaten a material demand on website capacity. (Yes I understand that until "popular" the demand increase woiuld be negligible).

Once the Olympic WaterPolo matches have finished you would have time to start beating the drum for 30/0! As the recently-young people say "I'm down!"

I would love to see this happen as well. But, I suspect it's probably not going to happen. I hope I am wrong.

I think so, 10|0 is considered rapid, but also 45|45 and 60|0. They are completely different categories so should have different ratings.

DasBurner

I've noticed that a lot of people have been switching to Lichess just to play classical with a different rating pool

ricorat

Tbh there are still plenty of people who play 30|0 on cc

I'd love to see a separate classical time control too, but have seen staff say there's just not enough games played to justify doing it.  However...

1) this is the third time someone has posted about this in the last month +/-, so perhaps the demand is increasing, and

2) if staff gets enough requests, maybe they'll reconsider.

Bottom line for those of us who want to see a separate classical rating on this site...  keep pressing.

I play 30/10, 30/30, and 45/45.  It's ridiculous that those games get lumped in with 10-minute games.

The response is always "not enough players play it"

And the rebuttal is simple: if you have a separate rating for it, folks will play it more.

If you build it, they will come.  It's really just the one main thing I don't like about chess.com.  Everything else I can tolerate just fine, and there's lots of good stuff here.  But I just don't get this dissing of 30- and 45-minute games.

Besides: that's the best online way to learn "real" chess.
