On the chessboard, lies and hypocrisy do not survive long.

Chess is a game.

Chess is a battle.

Chess is war.

It is art, science, logic, and beauty.

Chess is the ultimate contest between two minds.

Chess is the mental torture of one's opponent, and the mental torture of oneself.

Chess is drama.

It is tragedy.

It is tears and frustration.

Chess is despair.

Chess is laughter, joy, and triumph.

Chess is a friendship formed through a contest.

Chess is 16 pieces, 32 men, 64 squares.

It is openings and endgames, tactics and strategy.

Chess is combinations.

Chess is planning.

Chess is the sharpening of the mind, the exercise of the brain.

Chess is thinking.

Chess is pure thought.

Chess is tension, toil, and strife.

Chess is losing.

Chess is winning.

Chess is beating and being beaten.

Chess is where all excuses fail.

Chess is a hobby, a mania, a fixation.

Chess is an addiction.

Chess is a waste of time.

Chess is a distraction.

Chess is passion.

Chess is truth.

Chess is life.

...

Do not be afraid to play a game, be afraid not to learn anything from it!

The essence of the game is distorted if we do not think.

When we are playing chess, we are our thoughts and emotions.

...

- "Chess fills the mind with dreams that are real." (Michael Purcell.)

- "The good thing in chess is that very often the best moves are the most beautiful ones. The beauty of logic." (Boris Gelfand.)

- "I never tried to compete with others, I always competed with myself." (Vladimir Kramnik.)

- "Centralization is ever characteristic of master play." (My System, Nimzowitsch.)

ON FISCHER

He did not have a father like Carlsen who went with him to MacDonalds to have some ice-cream together. Carlsen has played more than 4400 games so far.

He did not have a family who played chess at home like Kasparovs. Kasparov has played more than 2400 games.

Fischer left around 1100 games, thats why he was a tragedy for the whole chess world.

He penetrated the secrets of chess in a shabby Brooklyn apartment alone. He learned Russian and studied even Soviet chess books back then, and he won against almost all Soviet Grandmasters.

He did not like to have his mother around, he would not play if his mother around. He was left alone all day when he was very little with his sister Joan.

"Go on and play chess after you are done with it you can do something important!"

~Regina Fischer to Bobby Fischer.

"There was obvious conflict between Regina and Bobby from an early age. He rejected her because she was so like him, so pushy, so self-centered, so goal-directed. Maybe he was splitting of part of himself." (Anthony Saidy on Fischer's Mother - Regina Fischer who told Bobby who is his father after the guy - Paul Nemenyi who used to visit them died. She said to Fischer that Paul was his father after he died. Fischer was 9 when he learned this. He hasnt seen his mother for around 10 years when he participated in World Chess Championship match against Spassky.

"Chess to him was the ultimate escape, his single obsession." (Anthony Saidy.)

"He did it all by himself.

He penetrated the secrets of chess in a shabby Brooklyn apartment alone.

He was the best player who ever lived."

(Shelby Lyman)

"He was the tragedy for the whole chess world."

(Anthony Saidy)

(He left us around the same number of games of Steinitz which is around just 1100. Steinitz is 107 years older than him. Alekhine is 38 years older than him, and left around 2200 games.)

- Reportedly his last words: "Nothing is so healing as the human touch."
