I am a Class A/Expert rated player and a Professor. I have been playing tournament chess for over a decade (https://www.uschess.org/msa/MbrDtlTnmtHst.php?12929552), playing in chess clubs longer (e.g. http://www.kenilworthchessclub.org/kenilworthian/2005/07/devin-camenares-game.html), and teaching almost as long.

I have taught chess in a variety of formats. I was one of the chess coaches for the after-school program at the Heschel school in New York City, ran summer camps out in the Hamptons (NY), organized chess programs for kids at a local school in Michigan and the public library as well. I have given private lessons in person, and I have also taught online.

I have extensive experience in teaching in general, and have been a professor of biology and biochemistry for the past decade. I know how to take a complex and difficult topic and break it down, helping to build a bridge between where a student is and where they want to be. I have done this in classes and 1:1 in a tutoring or independent study environment, in-person and online.

I have a sizable chess library, a flexible schedule and negotiable rates. I am eager to work with all ages, but particularly experienced with young adult and adult improvers.

Also, check out my chess landing page (https://sites.google.com/view/science-on-the-squares/home) for links to my YouTube channel, blog, chess software I have created, and other chessic things. They give you a sense of my teaching style and approach to the game.
