Even without chess, they would have managed, friend!

That is a hilarious comment!  It's probably true as well.

The problem is, don't you think that the chess world is rather anti-gay friendly?  It seems like there is a pretty open homophobic streak that runs through the chess world.

It is one of the last bastions of unabashed and open homophobia in the western world.

And you base that on the silly comments that are made here? Anywhere on the internet guys fight, ladies get chased, gay are insulted and jokes are made about gender, race, age,...

Homophobic is real in islam, army, ships, submarines, the kkk and socker fans in eastern europe.

What an interesting twist , the thread has taken from the original topic!

Hello Fernando . I understand that this news has made ashamed of you. Regardless of any infringements of the law, of these people who played chess . The point is another . If we study carefully the history of mankind, the "civilization " of the states. We can find a constant : the use of power without justice . In fact, the power of the state (any state ) is very hard on the defenseless people . Chess players do not have a powerful lobby . Playing chess does not earn money. While playing soccer , tennis, attracts many sponsors , so much publicity and a lot of money . The races of Formula 1 motor racing , an incredible tool for power and money. the power of the state (any state) is mild , with powerful people . You know many owners of banks ( with speculation that ruined millions of people ) who have been punished ? Hardly anyone . You know many politicians ( who have become rich through corruption ) that were punished ? Hardly anyone . I could go on the list. Why all this? in theory we live in democracies , in practice the power is run by oligarchies . So the power of the state , the law is in their service . They have a degree of immunity. Chess players do not. We can say that they have suffered an injustice .

Fernando you know the Bible. You know that the prophets , Jeremiah, Isaiah ( and everyone else) , especially Amos . They turned harsh accusations to the powerful. To the king. The rich. They condemned the injustices against ordinary people , the poor.

John the Baptist used harsh words against King Herod , the king had transgressed the law of God (Luke 3: 19 )

The Lord Jesus Christ has used harsh words against the ruling class of his time.

Luke 11.39

Then the Lord said, " Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness .

Matthew 23.4

They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men's shoulders , but they will not move them with one finger.

Matthew 23:13

Woe unto you , scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites shut up the kingdom of heaven against men : for you so you do not enter , and do not let go even those who want to get into it.

Matthew 23.23

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites , for ye pay tithe of mint and dill and cummin , and have neglected the weightier matters of the law : justice , mercy and faithfulness . You should have practiced , without neglecting the former .

the Lord Jesus Christ was an awkward figure for the ruling class , we can say that he behaved like a " protester " peaceful . For this mighty have decided to put him to death .

Fernando you have a thirst for justice ?

Matthew 5.6

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

they shall be satisfied .

Some think that the justice of which Jesus speaks is postponed , in the future, the Kingdom of Heaven . But how can the Christian hope for justice in heaven, if the earth behaves unfair?

 James 2

1 My brethren, do not mix personal favoritism to your faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. 2 Suppose that come into your assembly a man with a gold ring on his finger , dressed beautifully , and also comes in a poor man in shabby clothes . 3 If you look to the one who is dressed beautifully and say, "You sit here comfortably ," and say to the poor : "You Stand there ," or, "Sit here at my footstool ," 4 does not take into among yourselves, and become judges with evil you are not ? [...]

15 If a brother or sister is ill- clad and in lack of daily food 16:01 of you says to them, " Go in peace, be warmed and filled ," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is it ? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead in itself .

The message of the Gospel speaks of justice , a concept that does not apply only to believers , it is a universal value for all mankind,  also for chess players : )  Sorry Fernando did not want to lecture you ( even your friends who have spoken in this post) . In fact when I was young , I was annoyed by adults who wanted to make me the sermon. While I was willing to discuss with adults who wanted to share with me their thoughts . So you then consider my speech . perhaps a little ' too long: ) a way to share what I think.

God bless you, young brother.

On the contrary, luiji (araski), my friend, I look forward to your sermons and the nourishment and refreshment they offer to me. Its beyond the intellectual and the merly rhetoric realm , friend and goes deep right in to the spiritual , where the soul operates! Thanks again for that 'sermon" . We need that ! God bless u!

Well, firebrandX, it is shocking how the states or authorities in general are tolerant towards the outrageous or the fringe elements while using a highhanded approach towards the conventional and traditionally decent people!

It is hardly "justice" to torture someone forever if he/she does not know if there is a god or gods.

The degree of punishment or what u call torture is contingent upon the fact whether you had a chance to know God or hear about his gospel or not. Ones who had the opportunity and still went astray will be the saddest.

slvnfernando  There is no "crime" which deserves eternal torture.  Not knowing there is a god or choosing the wrong god should hardly be classified as a "crime".  A religion based on fear and threats cannot be a true religion.

Let us hope you do not receive eternal torture for picking the wrong god even though you seem to be ok with others receiving such torture.

There is no need to "give" these homeless people a home, they once had one. These people are physically capable of working any labor job. even to pick fruits from the fields would serve them good, farming is part of our american ancestors way of life. the crime is not the homesless chess players themselves, but the illegal drug deals that have mixed in the cover up. no business needs that, Market St. is a public area with lots of tourists. we don't want to see any street craps either, that's just way ghetto. keep chess players playing chess. everybody else, kick rocks.

It amazes me how the police in this story have missed the big picture here. A great article though.

Police, all over the world, invariably and without fail, always misses the big picture, Elona!

"Great idea. Public sector parasites leeching off the taxpayer is something we definitely need even more of."

Better to lock them up at a cost of $50,000 a year? We lead the world in prison population and the military. That's about it. And many of those "parasites" that are homeless are VETERANS of a failed "war on terror" that returned to a country unwilling to supprot THEM when they needed it.

Millions of homes abandoned after the housing crash, thousands of homeless Vets.... why NOT give them a chance at a better life?

We spend close to 800 billion on the military. More than the next ten nations combined. We give hundreds of billions in corporate welfare, who are the parasites?

An obscene degree of wealth inequality. Does it really have to be as much as it is?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DbkPBKtCss

Of course, it's even worse (or better, depending on your perspective) when you consider the world as a whole. E.g. the richest 300 people have the same wealth as the poorest 3 billion.

because everyone knows that all gay people are these flamboyant hyper sexual provocative drag queens who parade around in heels and speak with a heavy lisp like lady chablis. this isn't just some stereotype that is perpetuated in the mainstream, it actually is an accurate description of all gay people everywhere.
