I am not thrilled with what he said.  But kirsan has given chess a black eye for long enough.  It is hard to imagine how someone could be worse.

Its funny that both kasparov and Kirsan have devalued the chess world's most valuable asset - the world chess championship.  Its hard to say whether Kasparov's break away from the candidates match cycle, or Kirsan's ridiculous  "World Championship Tournaments" did more damage.

Kirsan still seems to think in terms of using his private funds to do all the work and with him I am sure that is all we will ever have.  I am sure very few corporations want to associate with him or any organization he runs.

Kasparov indicates he wants to bring about more corporate sponsorship.  But he doesn't really say how.  If he were to indicate he would do this by going back to a candidates match cycle I would support him.  But right now other than gettting kirsan out I am not sure what he offers.

I'm absolutely on board with this (pun intended), who better than the legendary GM Kasparov to represent chess? Plus, I like his six points.

Thanks Nicefork... seems like you have some real insight into the backstage politics.

I myself does not know much of who's who in the organization of top chess, but I have been wondering about the messages from FIDE that seem to focus more on the man than on the game.

Kasparov would be a fantastic FIDE president. Good luck to him

He's a brilliant chess player and a brave man who speaks his mind. It's a shame that people will always have to find criticisms.

Maybe I am biased (when I started to be interested in chess - in the second half of the Eighties - he was the first players I heard of... that was the period of the challange vs Karpov) but I think Gary is perfect for this role

Kirsan's minimatch knockout World Championships, I think. That gave us World Champions like Khalifman and Kasimdzhanov, that never would have been anywhere close to even qualify for a Candidates tournament with any serious system. Kasparov made some bad decisions but would never get the idea to let the World Championship be decided by 2-4 game minimatch events decided in blitz tiebreak.

I tend to agree.   I would much rather just take the top rated player and offer him a match (Like kasparov did when the Shirov match fell through) than have a knockout tournament for world champ.

Some think Kirsan was purposely trying to dilute the world champ title so no one could challenge his authority.

Kasparov is a great supporter of chess and would greatly enhance the FIDE...
