Hi again everybody. A new thread for today's results, and we have had our first one of the day. Nigel Short(W) took on World Champion Vishy Anand(B), and after a closed Sicilian Opening and 43 moves, Short was checkmated. This will pretty much wipe out any thoughts that Short will have in winning, let alone placing in the Top 3 spots of the event. Anand gets a nice win on his 41st birthday!!
The next two games covered finished almost finished at the same time, but with different results. First up though out of this double block is McShane vs. Adams, who after 44,Kf1, reached an agreement draw. Both players had 4 pawns, and opposite colored bishops on the board, while the Hotness meter rang out at a solid 3.
Next up on the plate for today is Kramnik(W) vs. Howell(B). Kramnik only needed 42 moves to dispose of Howell, who resigned after 42.Be6. Kramnik said at the post game interview that after his long game yesterday, he wanted to do something new and different, and it worked.
Here is the game, with the Exchange Grunfeld opening:
Finally, Mags vs. Naka. Nakamura, after his great 1st three rounds, run into a wall called Magnus Carlsen. Naka resigned after 59.Ke5, and the Hotness meter ran at a pretty hot 8.
Another day of great competition as the tournament begins the final turn into the homestretch with three more rounds to go. My next post will be the pairings and the starting time. Enjoy everyone!!
