NANJING-Final Round Results w/Games

ChessMarkstheSpot

Maybe someone will use the game editor and possibly play a line or two out showing the next few moves because if I did, it wouldn't be as strong as what it actually is, so if anyone wants to take that up, go for it

Hyannis

Thank you for checking for me. I tried looking for myself and, unless you paid a subscription to Fritz, no other google search will bring up the game!!!

ChessMarkstheSpot

not a problem Hyannis. Luckily, when I got Fritz I got one year Premium free, but I don't know how my reporting job is going to go when that one year is over in August. I'll just go back to Patzer status most likely, but at least I can enjoy it and bring all the games to the community while I can  Cool

Anand  vs Bacrot . The winning moves are not too clear for me. I suspect

34. a4    Na5

35. Ra1  Rb5

...then Anand chips away with 36. Bxf7+  Kf8   and then maybe 37.Bd5 to attack the pawn on e4.

...or Anand can the play 36.Nd2 before his 37.c4 (the more attacking line)

...need help with this one for sure.

ChessMarkstheSpot

Jester - I plugged this into both Fritz 12 and Chessmaster 10 and the results were white winning overall, but there was a few draws in there as well. Until someone plays this one out fully, we won't have a clear cut result

EDIT: I'm going to plug this game into Chessmaster 10 one more time and see what it comes up with and I'll post the results

Carlsen vs Gashimov

I notice that with white, Carlsen loves to play 1. e4 (usually the Spanish Game). Today's game was unusual...can't remember when last I saw "The Four Knights Game" at the GM level in a tournament. He reminds me of Fischer who also loved to play 1. e4.

ChessMarkstheSpot

I was pretty taken aback by it too when I was watching that game. I play the Four Knights sometimes, and from what I know and have heard, it's not a very common opening at that level. I play 1.e4 almost all the time against Fritz/CM, but to see it in GM games, I'd have to look and see in my mammoth databases to check on it.

Thanks ChessMarkstheSpot,

Wow...not even the silicon masters are clear on this one...maybe Bacrot was to quick to resign? We hold our breath while we try to clearly find the winning ways for Anand.

ChessMarkstheSpot

I set this position up in Chessmaster 10 and am using The Chessmaster personality(2960 rating) for BOTH sides to play it out from Bacrot's last position, plus an hour for each side so I don't have to worry about time pressure. I will post the results when done. Smile

Thanks ChessMarkstheSpot,

We will have some tea while the the Chessmaster 10 does all the workLaughing

jesterville

Chess.com has finally posted the results and games in the "news" section...but no indication as to a clear win path for Anand...we hold our breath in anticipation...and continue to sip on our tea.Cool

ChessMarkstheSpot

Jester- you're very welcome. I hope this will help shed some light on the situation. I know Anand and Bacrot don't have CPU brains but maybe this will help somewhat. It's only hypothetical and all but, maybe, something will click into place. Smile

UnknownVision

I'm going to go ahead and post Shredder 4's analysis on the Anand-Bacrot game:

I really wanted Bacrot to take 2nd... Oh well
ChessMarkstheSpot

UnknownVision - good. that'll be good to have for another reference point and that is pretty close to what F-12 said as well. I usually don't use CM for things like this but I am interested to see what it says, and it looks like the game will be over in another 10-12 minutes with Anand being the winner. Black's rook is off the board. White still has the Bishop, Knight and lone Rook on the board, up 4 pawns to 3. Smile

Kind of a funny little tournament openwise don't you think. All five of Carlsen's games were 1.e4 e5 -- and none of the tournament's games began 1.e4 c5.

jesterville

ChessMarkstheSpot,

Your starting off position was inaccurate. The white pawn is on c3 not c2.

Hoping you will correct and run the program again.

ChessMarkstheSpot

UGH!!!!!!!  LOL!!!

yeah it's up and running again...sorry about that. I've been up since 4 AM doing chess reporting. LOL

I dont think its difficult to see why Bacrot resigned ..... white has 2 , maybe 3 winning moves in the position after 33... Be2

34 Rxf7 and Rxe2 and a6 all look winning to me.... Bacrot must have thought so too and didnt want to wait to see which Anand chose, so resigned.....

jesterville

Thanks Reb. As a master it comes easy for you. But for us patzers...it takes a while to figure out some of these ending positions.

I agree with your options, and also want to include 34 Bxf7. The problem is, not all of them results in a sure win for Anand...some engines give a draw on certain lines.

I hope that some GM on chessbase is preparing an analysis as we speak. Speaking about analysis...it would be great for chess.com to not only provide the game, but also an analysis like most other sites do.
