Careful. There's a bogey-man in your closet. Pretty sure he's a Canuck.
New Chess Hall Of Fame Opens

Jeez, how come Sri Lanka's come to a boil all of a sudden? They have one too many monsoons or something?
Still, this may be far from an isolated outburst from this guy. Here's a note he left somebody else (I mean, the nerve of some people getting miffed when you tell them their opening sucks!):
"just a kiddo with no skill or manners. Opens with a boring game (full staggered pawns) then gets upset when i tell him its boring + bad and lets his timer run out.avoid!"

--- Thanks for the recent posts. AndyC: Thanks for the info.
OmniCapp: Most of my info on the Chess HOF comes from " Chess Life ". Btw do you read at all ? Imean like books or magazines ? Also are there ANY threads at all here on this site that are good enough for you or are you just a constant complainer ?
Well things seem to have calmed down in this thread now, perhaps I should dare to risk adding another post ? ( lol ). The new issue of Chess Life again mentions the display featuring the Chess Patron Jacqueline Piatigorsky. Also shown are several interesting photos including one of the Piatigorsky Cup ( created by Tiffany & Co ).
The US HOF Inductees have been announced. They are GM Gregory Kaidanov and WIM Mona May Karff. In her career Karff won the US Women's Championship 7 times between 1938 and 1974.
That's pretty impressive.
--- Thanks for the post Corrijean. I got the info from the April issue of " Chess Life ".
The August issue of Chess Life mentions that the Chess HOF has a new primary display on the go entitled: A Memorable Life - Bobby Fischer. Of course with Fischer being the main area of interest they hope to get a lot of visitors and this display will run from July 24th, 2014 to June 7th, 2015.

If they haven't changed their ways, many will be disappointed. From two years ago:
A couple of weeks ago I was in St. Louis for work. I was only there Monday to Friday. After looking at the HOF site on google and their own site, there were two different sets of hours of operation. So, I called on Monday, and received a recorded message that stated the dates the HOF would be closed-for August. This was the first week of December. I was able to leave a message, so I left my phone # asking for their hours. Three days later someone finally called back to tell me their hours are 10-6.
I don't have anything against St. Louis, but it seems like one would have to take a vacation or holiday to go see the HOF. And I've never met anyone that said, "I' have next week off work, I think I'll go to St. Louis!"

Thanks for the post AlCzervik. Yes one would hope that they are getting better at running the place. If I were the travelling type I wouldn't mind going there in the Summer to see the HOF and also take in a Baseball game.

Sounds like a great idea, Cabby! You should do it. Busch Stadium is really nice. The people are nice, too.

A couple of weeks ago I received a copy of the Sept. issue of Chess Life which has a large version of the number 75 on the cover ( Yes the USCF is 75 years old and is still here ). Several covers from Chess Life are show including one from Sept. 5th, 1957, one that has a bit of a sad overtone to it ( in view of later events ). A photo of teenage Bobby Fisher is shown and the headline is: " Another Morphy ? Only Time Can Tell Where Bobby Fischer Will Finally Rank ". Well of course time would show that Morphy and Fischer sadly had more in common than just Chess.
Just a reminder for people who are ( or soon will be ) in the St.Louis area, the Chess HOF has their special Bobby Fischer display ( A Memorable Life ) going on until June 7th, 2015.

I was in town for work in October and got to go the Living Like Kings opening reception. While there, I was went up to the Bobby Fischer display and got to look around. It was pretty cool.

--- Thanks for the info Martin_Stahl, very nice of you to leave a post
In a recent issue of Chess Life I noticed that the WCHOF is now selling some collectibles such as jackets, t-shirts, mugs etc etc. Some nice stuff there.

I purchased a t-shirt when I was there. Bought an XL but after the first wash it fits me like a medium
Not sure if this has been posted or not but they have a Flickr account so you can see some pictures of the site and events they hold:

The Chess HOF will soon switch over to a new special exhibit. Many years ago ivory was used to create many items of great beauty including Chess pieces and boards. Today it is of course illegal to trade in ivory but there are still a lot of these rare pieces in private collections and some of these items will soon be on display at the HOF.
cabadenwurt = advertising.
In most cases I like to thank the person who takes the time to leave a post but in your case I have a question. Why bother to read a thread if you do not like the info that is in the thread ???
I browsed it in interest only to find 6 pages of you talking to yourself every few months with new bits of "interesting" information about the place.
Clear advertisement when one person is repeatedly coming in here to post information about something "they dont have any idea about" every few months when no discussion is going on.
What possible reason could you have if you'd never even been to the place to keep posting new information on it? To even have this information is somewhat suspect considering the place is relatively unknown and information isnt forthcoming.
It ticks me off that people like you can claim "Oh ive never even been there!" but magically know everything. You are clearly an employee or something of similar appearance of this place to knowingly promote it month after month when there is little interest in this thread.
This isnt having an interest in something, this is advertising to the masses discretely. Where are you even getting this information? What possible motives do you have for continously bumping this dead thread other then advertisement?
People who go to a cool place, or think something is of note will make a thread (or tell people about it), give relevant information and let people make up their own minds. People with the motive of luring them to their business or attraction do what you've been doing for over TWO YEARS. Continously remind, annoy, urge and pressure them.
And as i answered at the beginning of this message, i came in here out of interest, only to find your pile of steaming horsedung. Your advertisement is clearly working, "ohh, chess museum, the threads got 6 pages, must be legit! Oh wait..its just an employee promoting constantly."
