BMI2 is for haswell+

thank you, sir. i tried bmi2, popcnt and plain stockfish, without success.
might be stupid but you know in general how to create a new UCI engine in fritz?
yes, sir. i do. i am using stockfish 8 and komodo 10 - through 'create uci'
do not work on arena also. show ' error, engine could not start'

Maybe you anti-virus software is causing problems or your download is corrupt.

Instead of opening the .exe file I opened the GUI and then selected the .exe in the engine section.

You just need to do some basic troubleshooting. Go to the engine's executable file and double-click on it. If a black console window pops up, then you know that the executable file is good, and the problem lies elsewhere:
If you instead get an error message, then you know there's something wrong with the executable file. (Either it's corrupt, or perhaps a permissions problem.)
It's just a matter of eliminating possible problems until you find the problem.

it is a 'permission' issue. the file shows black console window on double clicking in other computers and not in my computer. please, suggest steps to overcome the problem

Sounds like you may be doing something wrong. Read help file, here is the link:

Try turning off anti-virus software before installing.

popcnt version should be faster as it is using popcount, a CPU instruction that count and unstack bits on bitboards (a way to code the board using 64bit integers)
This is a very efficient way for the engine to evaluate positions and it is used in several strong engine
