I've done it a few times in blitz. It really is located in a troublesome place.
Accidentally resigning a game.

The site glitched and resigned a game I was winning, with no warning. I reported it, but never heard a word back from staff.
That's what having a premium membership for five years and being a top gifter on the site gets you.

In my opinion the problem is made up of three design issues:
1) The resign button is available within analysis mode. You can't make your actual game move within analysis mode, yet you can resign the game? Doesn't seem logical.
2) The resign button is located very close to the arrow buttons that you use to go thru the game moves.
3) The "Are you sure" confirmation popup comes up immediately below the resign button.
To me, the simplest fix is to just move the "Are you sure" confirmation to center screen rather than have it pop up so close to the resign button. This way, if you accidentally hit resign, it would be extremely unlikely that you would move the mouse pointer way up to center screen and click "yes" accidentally. But truly, to address any one of these issues would probably make accidentally resigning much less likely.

We all have to wait- no special treatment I'm afraid.
It has already been a month. There will be no action on the report. Stop acting like a mindless twit.

no it cant be undone
i guess u shouldnt have been so sure that u wanted to resign when it asked u if u were sure
Why does everyone have to be a smart*ss? I obviously "wasn't sure" - it was an accident. It's possible to inadvertently click a button, you know. Reading these forums, it seems it's happened to other people also.
You clicked 2 times so its clearly your fault.

Sometimes Surrender -- removes the resign and draw buttons (only for daily games) when in analysis mode. It also moves the confirmation dialogue to the top of the screen.

Or even simpler.....................
DO NOT PRESS THE RESIGN BUTTON TWICE.
You mad?

You're the one thats struggles resigning accidentally.
Not anymore.

+1 I agree, I was sceptical when I first read this problem but I fully understand the issue now. My apologies to @PsYcHo_ChEsS and @Redlscariot.
No worries on my end, man. Jumping to defend developers when users are overly critical isn't a bad instinct.
I just think this particular issue has turned into a meme at this point, based on the tone of this (and similar) threads. lol

It's all good. Thanks for understanding. I probably would have been doubtful myself about the problem till it happened to me.

Judging by how many people are so intent on resigning, and demanding other people resign, they probably got a lot of complaints that the resign button was way too small and way too hard to find. Probably no matter how easy they make it for someone to resign, someone is going to complain it's not easy enough.

I was playing a team match two games and i was in analysis and accidentally hit the small resign and hit "are you sure" by accident. It was on my 10th move and had no reason to resign. I notified my club it was accidental, put a note on the match board, sent my opponent what happened. . .
We still were playing the second game and two moves later my opponent resigned when there was no reason to. . .
That was a gentleman and i made him my friend . . .
I notified chess.com the problem of hitting the resign link and they should move it. . . But the only thing they said is "Send me a screen shot of the problem" . . .
I use a Kindle and it doesn't take screen shots . . .
I still hit RESIGN by accident but i try to be more careful . . .
Moving the click link is not a big thing to do. I know since i program HTML . . .

This has just happened to me in my first tournament . Early on as well. Very disheartening. I don't think I'll be letting my free trial continue to a pair subscription. They really ought t move the button as it's far too easy to make a mistake on a tablet.

You are not alone!
Have a look here: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/site-feedback/resigning-by-mistake-bad-site-design
Sure. Or I can just remove the button.
One solution involves you writing a code to not have the button there period, making it impossible to resign in positions like this
The other requires you to just hit the arrow keys negating the problem in the first place, and still allowing you to resign. I wonder which is easier.
One can be easily toggled off when I need to use the resign or draw button (roughly once a week), the other requires me to bring a keyboard any time I'm lazing on the couch and using the computer on the big screen.
It was literally two lines of CSS and a cookie-cutter json manifest. It took about 5 minutes, and improves my quality of life.
I don't have to wonder. I know which is easier.
bruh
5 mins is more work when literally no effort is required to press the arrow keys. Plus you have to toggle it off each time you want to use the resign or draw button.
The only situation I can think of where this becomes easier is if you are using the computer on a big screen, or mobile, but on mobile you have to tap on it multiple times so you won’t just easily resign. As for the computer on the big screen, I have no idea what that is. Could you please link me a video explaining or showing that? AFAIK, computers come with a keyboard already, meaning you always have it. How else would we be typing this up?
(Quick edit: 5 minutes of up-front work, in my opinion, is well worth preventing even one accidentally resignation if I "forget" to use a keyboard. That's why I made the extension the first time it happened.)
Sometimes I plug my laptop into the projector and watch Netflix or something. I'll occasionally check in on daily games. It's easier to just use the mouse rather than go all the way to the laptop.
Literally almost any computer can be plugged into a modern TV or projector.
ANYWAY. Your opinion is very clear. The confirmation button is sufficient. Not everyone agrees, however, and--even beyond atypical setups--not everyone wants to play with a keyboard. Some people just prefer mouse-only play. I certainly do.
OP and a few others said they thought it would be nice to have a slightly bigger barrier to resignation, since it's such an uncommon action. I agreed. So I came up with a solution.
I posted it on the chrome store (for free) so that others could use it if they want. If you don't want to use it, don't use it. If you do...
Never give up. Never Surrender.
