A lesson to be learned. Never be the 1st to respond- as OP’s abandon or are sanctioned. - leaving an inheritance. A major flaw in the system.

Thanks, Martin. A very odd experience.
I figured that my best response was to simply contact support and wait it out.
I do suggest that the coders add a (Y/N)? prompt to the inherit-a-club function. If I had been asked "Do you want to become the new Owner/Admin of 'Club with Obscene and Offensive Name (Y/N)?", I would probably have declined the privilege.
Not such a good idea to randomly join the fly by night clubs.

Months ago, I was invited to join a club here on chess(dot)com. Just an ordinary club, with a name so ordinary that I can't even recall it.
I was already a member of twenty-odd other clubs, and I'm not really a club sort of person... I don't take much part in club activities. But joining is usually simpler than tactfully refusing, so I agreed to join, on the condition that I was not assigned any role or responsibility (such as recruiting or coordinating).
Some time later, the club Admin apparently had a serious problem with the Moderating staff here on chess(dot)com, because he/she changed the club name to "#### all the Moderators especially that little weasel ###Specific Moderator's Name###". He/she also changed the club's profile picture to something offensive.
At the time, I wasn't aware of this because I just ignore almost all of my clubs, and don't even glance at the messages and alerts that I get from them.
Then he got banned, or closed his account... leaving the club without an owner or Admin. The chess(dot)com software Bot doesn't allow this... every club must have an owner and an Admin.
So the Bot picked a new owner/Admin. Guess who got picked? Probably because of my 2012 join date, which presumably put me at the top of the list of candidates.
I was still blissfully unaware of all this, because the Bot had NOT asked me "Do you want to be the new Owner/Admin of 'Club With Obscene and Offensive Name (Y/N)?". It just assigned the club to me, without any Y/N prompt.
Then somebody... a Mod?... a Bot?... some random person visiting my profile?... noticed that I was the Owner and Admin of what was obviously some sort of nasty Hater's club.
The rest you know. I was kicked out of Community Defenders, and banned from the chess(dot)com website.
I could probably have straightened it all out fairly quickly by creating an alt account... The_Ghost_Of_Blue_Emu, perhaps... but I hadn't yet done anything wrong (as I saw it) and I was reluctant to violate the ToS with a multi-account.
So I just stayed Banned, contacted Support by e-mail, and waited it out. It took four days.

why would you need permission for this? showing cc the error of their ways is the only way they will ever correct them. yes, it's still a longshot, but you, me , anyone here is under zero obligation to defer to staff about what we can or cannot post regarding a ban/mute.
for example, last week i was muted. i wrote staff, and the response was that i was muted for writing a very long spamming post in the (regular) forums where i was abusive.
except, i wrote that i was muted by the bot in a supposed PRIVATE message to another adult where i was neither abusive nor spamming. in other words, the staff member had no clue why i was muted, didn't read my email, and made stuff up in the response.
the type of action that happened to you is one reason why i started the frustrated topic.
pisspoor customer service like this shouldn't require us to ask permission to reveal it. the recipient of said service should feel required to show it. otherwise, all this stuff gets buried and it's business as usual.
