You're still a "spring chicken," Lola Dear.  Enjoy it, (for at least another 10-20 years).  Ha!

Best Wishes, and continue to enjoy the wonderful weather down their in the Caribbean.  happy.png

Is Lola still here? I'm just now seeing this thread, and she asked a key questions in post #70 that nobody seemed keen on answering, but not only do I have an answer to her question but also it's the correct one, I believe.

I always found that the big psychological crunch never came at a round number like 30, 40, 50 or 60. It always came at the psychological gate, like 27, 37, 47, 57 . . .

I'm the same.

Was recently reading about some child celebrity I used to watch on TV as a kid. When I saw their age, I thought "they're so old now" and then of course immediately after that thought was "and we're the same age." Ugh.

I'm not as old as many people here, but I guess you're never too young to start feeling bad about yourself meh.png

None of my birthdays bothered me. But the older i get the more fearful I’ve become that there won’t be enough. I begin to regret more and more, early life decisions that still effect me today. Red said it best…

“Not a day goes by I don't feel regret, and not because I'm in here or because you think I should. I look back on myself the way I was...stupid kid who did that terrible crime...wish I could talk sense to him. Tell him how things are. But I can't. That kid's long gone, this old man is all that's left, and I have to live with that.”

How could I speak for others?

Here what I did when I was in my 40s: I took a serie of trips around the (remote) places on my vacation time, drank, flirted, slept with, did crazy things (I can't disclose, sry), because I knew it was my last good decade.

Now I'm 56, not so fit anymore, and live more like an hermit, with good memories, epics dreams fullfilled, and some regrets. But I did right even if there is a price to pay for any such things.

So, 45? Still a good 5 years ahead of you. Do something of it, take some risks, take photos of it all, mourn and all, later.

Your last good decade?

I was hoping the story would continue "now I'm 56 and I realize my life didn't end the day I turned 50, I still live, love, laugh, etc"

What's the problem with all you youngsters? . . .

I'm 84 years old . . . I go bowling every Monday , Tuesday & Wednesday in leagues . . .

I train on bowling every Friday and Saturday and have match games on Sundays . . .

I wish I was 55 again . . .

30's is somewhat old.

I think teenage years only became a thing starting in the 1950's. Before that, people were expected to just be adult.

In fact, reading some books from the 1960's, someone's 20's was considered to be "getting on". A major plot point and chapter taken out of the American version of "a clockwork orange" (and therefore subsequently taken out of the film) has Alex getting into his 20's and maturing, for example.

Glad to see this lovely thread springing back to life, (No Pun Intended).

But the banana described above needs to adjust from perhaps 3 times a night, to once every 7 to 10 days.  Very Simple.  All the rest is just our dirty little minds on overdrive, LOL.

AND some still foolishly think -- "Youth is Wasted on the Young."  grin.png

Alright, children, get a grip .. from the perspective of 75, I can say the angst of time eases up a lot .. no longer am I worried about goals, rankings, etc. .. none of that matters, you see .. what matters is doing no harm, giving to others, doing all the good you can, in all the ways you can, for as long as ever you can

Chess is but a game, play it .. enjoy it win or lose .. if it’s not fun anymore, take a break, take a walk, go fishing .. Carpe Diem, friends .. tempus is fugiting faster than you think
