I feel the urge to cheat to "get revenge" when I lose a completely winning position.

I just want to make clear before the mods jump on me that I have never cheated. I'm just saying the urge to want to cheat is very strong sometimes.

So allow me to explain. I have quite bad anger issues when it comes to chess, I regularly smash my fist down on my keyboard or smash my mouse or throw something on my desk in anger when I blunder or generally just lose a game where I was winning. This doesn't happen with every game but it does happen in certain situations, specifically when I was winning the entire way through the game and then lost right at the end or something.

And considering I'm a mere 1500 rated player, this happens an awful lot. Now it's not that I don't expect to make blunders because I do... It's just the blunders that I do make I consider them inexcusable for my rating. The types of blunders I make are the types of blunders I expect someone rated 500 to make, not 1500.

Take this recent game for example

White (me) is completely winning in this position being up 3 pawns. Yet I played the incredible Ng4 which loses the game on the spot. I remember in my head at the moment before I played it I thought Ng4 protected the g2 pawn. I dunno why but I just didn't realise that the Knight isn't protecting that square...

And so anyone rated 500 or higher can probably guess what happened next... I am SO angry with myself and I want to take this anger out on another opponent (instead of my mouse and keyboard) but if I play another game and lose that one also, it will make me even angrier. So I feel like cheating, I feel like absolutely crushing the living soul out of someone so I can make them feel the way I feel. I know that is very sad and messed up I probably have some kind of mental problem but making these kinds of blunders gives me genuine rage and hatred that I want to make someone else suffer the agony that I just suffered.

To this day I have resisted this urge and have not cheated, but I will admit the desire is growing stronger the more I play.

And don't tell me to quit playing chess because that isn't an answer or a solution. I play chess too much to quit.

Psychologists call it projection. You are angry and frustrated, and instead of accepting the blame for your own failures, you lash out. It’s a very common defense mechanism since putting the blame on oneself is hard on the ego.

I don't see how you are "completely winning" this game. You have a serious king safety issue to deal with. You probably played Ng4 to play Nf6 for a probable checkmate or a fork but it's not that easy.

Black's light bishop is there, both attacking and protecting. In a worst situation Bg6 is a deadlock for you.

About you extra pawns. Looks can be deceiving. My guess is you can only save one of them to promote but it's very hard shot.

Game is probably a draw in a best play.

About your anger management issue, well it's bad for anyone who suffers from it. Since you are aware, it's best to seek some professional help for it.

Anger issues are bad in chess, but they are great in sports.

White isn't actually completely winning in that position, it's still a fight since the g2 pawn is falling with check and can't be defended

The king is boxed on the first rank, and there's a passed pawn on f4. White is slightly better, but not completely winning.

You lost that's all that counts.

Zinc_Man

Haha, try and defeat me then.

Okay the challenge is coming. I only challenge 1 move in 3 days you only accept 1 move in 7 days is your computer that slow. Challenge me to 3 days I accept I challenged you to 3 day you did not accept

This happens to me often lately, but I just shrug. Better form will eventually come back.

Zinc_Man

Yes that is correct, see what happens ....

If anyone feel the urge to get revenge when anyone loses a completely winning position, chess.com also will feel an urge to take an immediate action. tongue.png

I clarify my last post I accept all 3 day challenges of any rating greater than mine. Any GM's want a game?

That game is completely winning. Kg1 and tell me what king dangers there are?

After Kg1 Rxg2+ Kf1 Rc2 and if you try to protect with c4 black plays Bd3+ followed by f3 and you are probably losing so the c pawn also falls. I would that I would say it is slightly better position for white but hardly a done deal.

Stockfish 12 vs. Stockfish 12

From given position, with 30 moves depth.

Anything else?
