I started playing chess at 18. Is it too late for me to become world chess champion?

All one needs do is research the Team match history of The Chess Elite and observe your playing top board SM. I , 2 and 3 player “Team matches” where you all your opponents are 500/1000 points lower rated. Simply said - this is not deserving of respect.

Sure you can. Just believe in it and do your 10 daily tactic puzzles. You'll be world champion in no time... Also contact Max Deutsch for advice.

And where is the relevance between that and anything in this thread? This seems like common practice with you, why follow people around and bring up unrelated claims about their daily chess history? There's nothing wrong with playing vs lower rated players, many of them enjoy playing a much stronger opponent

Link the games so everyone can see (which you won't do because you are inventing it) Perhaps you can also link the countless team matches where I am rated lower than my opponent. In a team match the objective is for the team to win. Players join from either side and the pairings are what they are. This has nothing to do with trolling lower rated opponents or disrespect or whatever else you are suggesting. And pray tell why I should care whether you respect me or not random Internet poster?

Under 1200 rapid, under 1100 blitz, under 1300 bullet. Become the world champion are you having a laugh? 😂 If you even become an intermediate level player you should be delighted.

Here we see the play of an imbecile, not a world champion. Not a GM. Not an IM. Not a FM. Not a strong amateur. Not an intermediate amateur. Just an imbecile.

More than likely. Just play and enjoy.

@MMTMIT Play me! If you can defeat me, you can simply defeat anyone including Magnus Carlsen. Look at my profile. I have got many GMs, WGMs, WFMs, IMs, FMs, NMs, CMs etc. from various countries in my friends-list. I have defeated all of them earlier very secretly. That is a very top secret. I even defeated Magnus Carlsen 7 times. This is also a very top secret. He is playing now my style of playing. If you still feel that you can't defeat GMs, I have an idea for you. Offer them billions of money and ask them to teach you their playing styles and secrets. Then, play them in a different competitions and they will lose themselves since you offered them billions. If you find this too not possible, then just pray some miracles might happen.tongue.pngwink.png

I was hoping for funny replies when I saw the obvious troll title that even a checkers player would have understood but it seems like the majority of the replies were serious. Disappointed

Well, sometimes us comedians just aren't on our "A" game - what can I say? :-)

Your question gave me a similar inspiration.  I turned 50 last year, and although I have never played organized basketball, I am hoping to become an NBA all star.  I read somewhere that you can be anything you want to be, it said nothing about age.  It is probably not realistic that I will ever be on the level of Lebron.  I am only 5'10 and 150 lbs, which puts me at a slight disadvantage.  But what I lack in athletic prowess, I make up for in work ethic, and cunning.  I don't jump as high as I did when I was in my 20's, it's a shame I did not think of this at my athletic peak (which is kind of a waste).  But  I am still quite spry.  When you become world chess champion, and I make the NBA all star team, I think we should go out for coffee and exchange stories.  I live in Chicago, so it is likely I could make the Bulls team without too much work.  I think they have to pick at least one all star from each team?  Being the best player on a weak team is probably the best chance for me (I need to be realistic).  I'm shooting for 2022 all star team, to give me some time.  I hope it does not take me until 2023, I am not a patient man.

Becoming the world chess champion requires you to start before age 6, and it needs to be your one goal not one of your goals. In order to be world champion chess has to be your life, and the only thing in your life. Becoming world champion isn’t just “oh *yawn* I’m going to go watch a movie later today and maybe become the world champion...”

Finally we have a definite number. After all the years of wishy washy research, progress.

Just remember not to watch a movie later

The bunny can hardly count beyond his ears.  Please do not torment the mathematically challenged bunny.

The bunny was going to watch a YouTube video to improve his math. But wait is that considered a movie? Don't want to miss the chance of being a champ.

I am teaching my two kids how to play chess. One kid is 1 month old. The other one is 2. 5 years old. I want both of them to become world champions by the time they become 9 years old.  So, around 12 hours of chess practice is going on. tongue.png

The older one only gets to be champ for 2+ years?  It's obvious who you love more.

See the bunny's math is already improving. He must be a prodigy.

Everyone starts somewhere and that play would be pretty good for someone just starting off. However, he has thousands of games played and yet he still blunders pieces. Obvious troll

I can beat the 1600 computer bot, and it's advanced.

That's because I only played bullet games. I never did any lessons back then.
