I bowl when rates are 20 TWD per game. 20 years ago? Now it's 120 TWD per game. I play Arcade basketball for some exercise.

Avatar of RichColorado

I don't know what TWD is . .

Open bowling is about $5.00 per game in the USA . . .

When in a league it's about $4.00 per game but you are committed to 30 weeks . . .

You do win $$ when you win a game . .  It's also high social event . . .

In some house you can rent the lanes by the hour . . .

I'm now at 1379 . . .

I seem to lose when i blunder a move . . .

I hear you. I’m going to devote more time to wood-working rather wood-pushing. I’m much better at that.

I like sending this forum because it helped me a little bit.

Perhaps I should use it because I've been in a bit of a chess slump too. The important thing is to try and put the emphasis on learning chess and not about the rating itself. If you really do learn a lot, then you will naturally begin winning games you apply that to and as a result the rating should go up on its own.

Denver I recently blundered my queen and yet managed a mate with my bishops. My blunders never cease to amaze me!

I looked at your game. . . Saw your blunder, your move should have been Qe5+ and pick up the rook . . . Or Q to g1+ leading to mate . . .

Nice finish with the two bishops! . . .

I can relate to this......

I'm 59 and started playing chess at about age 8.  I kicked other, often older, kids butts because I had Reuben Fine's "Chess the Easy Way" as a guide.  It's guidance served me well for years. Then came the www and this site.  I worked up to ~1500 rating (which was high for a internet newbie) and stayed there for a short while....when it hit.  The progression into inept, stupid, "what would the book say" moves that brought me down, down, down.  Heck, 750 level players kicked my rear. I stopped and re-assessed the reason I was playing.  Was it for a rating or a diversion from the crap/stress I'm subjected to every day?  I decided chess is like playing music for me.....a wonderful place where I think of nothing else but the joy of the experience.  I also went back to my archives and viewed how and what I did when I was "winning".  In the end, take it for what it is or give it a rest.  Life will go on whatever your rating!

Peace and Love,

Sbumle

I read don't concentrate on your rating. Easier said than done. What kind of chess sets you looking to part?

Avatar of RichColorado

I am giving away my club sets to kids at the elementary and library where i taught . .

They are the basic vynil board and black and white weighted pieces . . .

The clocks are the old basic ones . . . I used to teach kids to use when the played in tournaments . . .

@ 52yrral

Thanks a lot.

I'm playing my last twenty games in a under 1500 rating tournament . . .

Then i will hang it up if i can. . .

I was going to hang up bowling also because i was averaging under 150 . . .

I used to be over 200 average . . .

But I'm rolling a lighter ball 13 lbs. And it's easier to bowl . . .

I'm averaging 161 in league. I'm having fun bowling with several friends . . .

"Too bad youth is wasted on the young " I'm 82 years old . . .

Bye for now . . .

I'd prefer chess over bowling any day of the week though. One is a precision sport, the other is a round of mental gymnastics

Avatar of bong711

Bowling isn't bad. Just getting expensive. Chess is cheap if you don't buy chess softwares and chess books. Your desktop or laptop could be useful for many years and use in other applications too.

Avatar of 52yrral

Denver I think it's great that you are able to get together with friends to enjoy a game of bowling!

When you are bowling in the higher levels mental applications come into play. When to change balls because of the ball reaction, you might have six balls that react different on the oil reaction also your feet position location and the releases. So it not just rolling the ball.

 @ BONG711

NOW i bowl in the senior leagues so its only $15.00 a week. But the balls are $160.00 each. I have eight. My shoes are $160.00 a pair. But every time you win a game we win the other players money.

I do have three kindle pads and a laptop which i used for many things. But never a chess program . . .

MY wife has the beginnings of dementia it called APHASIA. So i can only be away for short time on Mondays and Wednesdays. I cook all our meals, do the dishes. Do the laundry. Take garbage out. Do the driving. The shopping. Answer all phones and vacuum.

Sometimes i fall asleep when I'm sitting in the living room.

Seem like im running out of time. . . .
