I say it. Especially when I win...or it's a good game and I lose.

Me even if been trapped after 5, it motivates maybe or is it compassion?

Sadistic? Some see it that way, but it is NOT

trust me, I'll say it otherwise.

err0r909

I some time point out the blunders he missed I crossed fingers he don't see it in chat at my turn time. Compassion or sadism?

err0r909

In contrary those kind of sites are a large diversification and some are just salty because they made him wear a silly dress.

Honestly no one says good game and I had no one to tell me to, so I don’t say it. I say it in lichess and in-person, because lichess has a button to do it and in-person, it’s part of respecting your opponent

It's too much effort to type it out on mobile, if you can see chat at all. chess.com needs a "GG" button like Lichess.

There is a gg button
TLPAWN

And the trend continues. C'mon people...show some humanity will ya? Sheesh.

Many people choose to play online rather than OTB precisely because they want to play chess without having to socialize. They are just interested in the game. Many are children, by the way, who are well advised not to communicate with strangers online altogether. Want to exchange pleasantries? Go to your local chess club. Who do you think you are to tell us that online chess players lack humanity? angry

Wow, you're needlessly and aggressively leveling up, AgileElephants.

LouStule was just commenting on how many don't seem to have basic sportsmanship manners and willing to take a nanosecond to "shakie" hands after a game and type these two simple initials- gg.

Even a kid can write that and no one is going to assume that players "gg" is a come on for advancing some sort of relationship!

And I consider the OP to be needlessly and aggressively judgemental. I detest the notion that people who do not want to use the chat are bad sports. Not engaging in any exchange of pleasantries is the norm in online chess, like it or not. It is not bad sportsmanship. Or lack of humanity (not my choice of words).

Besides, typing "gg" regardless of what the game was and what you feel about it is just a shallow gesture, pointless like the OP.

And no, expecting a kid to engage in a conversation with a stranger online is just wrong. Even innocent gg can lead to unwanted interactions, jeez, do I have to explain this?

Once on another forum I gave my usual 'thanks for the good game' to my opponent and he acted like I was a crazy demon. People don't appreciate sportsmanship anymore and it isn't taught. I've starting running into sandbaggers and other cheaters here already and don't feel very sportmanlike myself. In order to win or lose you have to play the game to get there and to me that is why I'm here.

That happens, but then. You gave him another slap, I have that feeling when beating 1 and say gg was like some insult....

I usually take the time to to say 'Good game' or at the very least 'gg'. If I get checkmated or lose on time and the game was interesting or fiercely competitive then I often offer a compliment. It's a game... being sporting about it, win or lose is important. But hey, it's the modern world... fragile egos and all. tongue.png

If someone takes 'good game' from an opponent after they loss then this really says more about their incredibly weak ego than it does about the person saying 'good game'. It's chess, no need for such thin skin.
