He probably just plays for fun, with no desire for improving. I made 1850 after a year and a half by learning from my mistakes and studying. He probably does none of this so he could play 1 million games and never improve because he will continue to make the same mistakes over and over.

You were 1850 after a year and a half, but your national rating is 1000?

Seems you're exaggerating a bit again.

Steven-ODonoghue

I learned the rules of the game match last year, at that time I was rated 600 on this site. I have played 1 OTB tournament after which I came out with a rating of 1041.

Just 1? You mean only 1 National rated? Or overall 1?

Steven-ODonoghue

I don't really understand that question.

rishabh11great

You didnt play any local , city or state events?

Steven-ODonoghue

No, I've only ever played in 1 tournament.

At the time of learning the rules you were rated 600?

Wow. Most people who didn't know the rules yet wouldn't have a rating because they wouldn't know how the pieces move...

I'm only giving you a hard time because I like you, so don't take this personally.

Nah that's fine, you can give me as much of a hard time as you like tongue.png

When I say I learnt of the rules of the game, What I mean is that I was a complete beginner. I have vaguely known the rules of chess my whole life but I only started really playing the game last year in March, a few weeks before I made my chess.com account. By the time I was playing online I was already sort-of interested in chess, I would have known the special rules and basic mates but nothing else.
