I know a lot of people don't like this set but I do. Except I can't seem to pull the trigger on that price.

Well. Someone finally made a copy of it that is more affordable, but I haven't heard of these guys before so I'm a bit wary.

Has anyone had any experience dealing with "Royal chess Mall". Better yet, has anyone bought this reproduction from them?

I bought the reproduction set from ebay, from Royalchessmall. Just received the pieces, very nicely wrapped, only THEY ARE NOT THE SAME AS IN THE PICTURE. They've sent me the Staunton "players" model.

So it seems I've been fooled.null

Sorry to hear this. I was much more fortunate.

In October of this year, I ordered RoyalChessMall's 2013 World Championship chess set from their Etsy shop. Their photographs showed it to be nearly identical to the official FIDE chess set, differing in appearance only in the base of the knights. Upon receiving the set from them, I was pleasantly surprised that what I had received was not the set pictured in their Etsy store, but rather, from all appearances and specifications, an actual new FIDE chess set with extra queens for about 1/3 of the price that the set sells for elsewhere. It also seems that I snagged the last one, as the set disappeared from RoyalChessMall's Etsy and Ebay shops after I purchased mine.

Hi! I've been thinking after seeing this 2018 Championship photos that the knight changed, and you say there is a 'new FIDE chess set'. So there is a new set? I thought that and posted that question.. https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/has-the-fide-chess-set-knight-design-changed

Thank you. Will update here when everything is corrected.

official Chess Championship pieces are very easy to replicate. of course they are not the official pieces, but probably it's very tough to different them from the original ones.

It is very easy to distinguish fake Fide championship set from the fake ones made by chessbazaar. Chessbazaar’s set is a joke! They couldn’t have made the knights any worse.

You really need to work on your language and writing skills.  You have used the word, "fake" too many times and messed up the context.

Finally received the set. It's sad, because in the ebay picture they show the official pieces, but then you receive a bad imitation.

The neck and chest of the knight, are much thicker... nothing to do with the delicate official design (and shown in ebay). My recommendation is to save a little longer and buy the actual official set.

Yes indeed
The official set is not that much
If you like it give the design team credit in terms of income instead of ripping them off

"Royalchessmall produces very poor quality sets. The pictures are different from the products they sell and the wood they use is simply rubbish."

Can you please post some photographs of the RoyalChessMall chess sets that you have so that we can see how they differ from their photographs and the rubbish quality of their wood?

If Fabi wins, I will buy the set sold by World Chess and own a piece of American chess history. According to the website, only 500 are produced each cycle.

Question: What do you guys think of the leather board sold by World Chess?

JackieMatra

They're all different!

The Official FIDE 2013 set, the RoyalChessMall version, and the Official World Chess set which claims to be the same as the Official FIDE 2013 set, yet clearly has different knights with a slightly different shape and a considerably different mane and base.

thanks for this picture Joan. they are certainly different, although should be very easy to copy them. probably they even didn't have the original pieces to do the repro.

In the end, after all, they decided to let me keep the professional series reproduction set they sent by mistake... So I guess I'm happy. Just bear in mind the reproduction and the official pieces are slightly different, but still they are quality weighed pieces, with quality wood and finish, and tbh the only detectable different piece is the knight. 10/10 would buy again!

That is a good comparison! Well done!

I bought the Fide Official Championship chess set with the chessboard  almost as soon as it came out. It is indeed a very beautiful set and very artisically made. The fake ones produced in India look like a bad DIY project specially the knights which are a disaster.

Royalchessmall produces very poor quality sets. The pictures are different from the products they sell and the wood they use is simply rubbish.

The standardising criteria for chess sets is House of Staunton.

ACTUALLY, the wood and overall design of the pieces I received is pretty good. It's boxwood, it's weighted, probably with lead, which you won't find if your pieces are made in Europe, and they have very good finish.

In fact, I recently bought the Bluetooth DGT board with timeless pieces... and THOSE are really crap. Feel like they are made of cork, they haven't been barnished... Board is neat, though.

In conclusion, I would buy again from Royal Chess Mall. Just be aware that the pieces won't be exactly the same design as official... but 1/3 of the price.

"... but 1/3 of the price."

Closer to 1/4 of the price, from RoyalChessMall's eBay store.
