That’s a good set!
A rook is born
Awesome! What type of wood is that? Love the grain. The rooks look polished and finished already. Will you be leaving the rooks with no notches? It's different. Very nice!
Great job! Fat rooks are my favorite. I can't wait to see the final result.
i too, are a fat rook connoisseur
Very nice job! That's the kind of threads I like more, thanks for sharing. It would be great if you share your first set as well!.
Thanks folks.
The wood used for this one is Indian rosewood for black and Chakte Viga for white.
I'm not sure about the slots on the rooks. I intended to do 5 in Dub style, but the rooks look very good without them. I might just leave the tops as they are now, and I can always add slots later. Same goes for the queen's crown slots. Might keep the crown round - the whole set is quite unusual anyway...
I think the rooks and the bishops are the defining pieces in this version of Dubrovnik.
Sleazymate - not much skill involved. Just spin a piece of wood and stick the sharp end of a cutter into it.

Hahaha, "not much skill". Your pieces look great! I'm quite sure I'd end up wearing that cutter and that wouldn't look so great... ![]()
Your king, queen, and bishop remind me of a more-ornate Horn A2 design. Very nice!
Been slowly working on my second chess set - this one's heavily inspired by Dubrovnik minceta set used by Bobby Fischer. Not an exact copy, as I mainly work from photos and freehand the pieces, so I sometimes end up taking design decisions on the spot.
I thought some of you might enjoy the process pics. Still quite a long wait before I can play these, but I'm slowly getting there. Free time permitting, will be playing them in a month or two.
