Maybe the best post ever on chess.com.
@Stum . . .you are the best!!!!!!!!
We may quibble over ratings, GOATs, and much other nonsense but at the end of the day love for others shines through.
There is no greater gift than parting with something personal. It's how you become most truly alive. ![]()
Incredible. The thoughtfulness of your act is incredible, and the touch of laser engraving - perfect! @stumOnner , well done!
Hi Chess Friends,
I wanted to take the time and share a story with you about a chess board that I cared about turned magical. It all started with me wanting a board that I can travel with. I like playing on wood boards, so I contacted Brad at Colorado Wood Worker on Etsy. I really liked the magnetic tower ones and Brad made me one out of walnut and maple. I planned to take it with me to camp. Every year I volunteer at Camp Fatima, they have a weeklong summer program designed for children with special needs. I run a woodshop that makes cut out characters as wood gifts for the children that leave camp at the end of the week. On off time I typically play chess with other volunteers and have built many nice memories with them. Here's a game I played during the week.
This particular year I brought out the Sandor Brio's in Red with the Colorado Woodworker tower. Well, towards the middle of the week, I was contacted by a counselor that told me that his camper plays chess with his father and he wanted to make a chessboard for him as a gift. I knew then and there what had to be done. I took one last look at my board and called in another volunteer who goes by the name of DJ Wonder bread who brought in his laser cutter.
I asked Wonder Bread if he would kindly help and personalize this board for a very special person as the gift. He agreed and simply designed and measured the camp logo with his name on the h1 square. The laser cutter is a very cool piece of equipment!
The board was finished, wrapped and presented to Myles on the last day of Camp.
The look of joy, happiness on this face was no less than magical. He said all he wants to do is get better at playing chess so he can beat his dad. With his determination I know he will! I hope he has many memories playing on this board with his dad, family & friends. Just wanted share (:
