I was very lucky last week, stumbling on this lovely Dubrovnik gem:

Strange story ! why did the father sell the chess set to his son ?
Would have thought he would give it to him as a gift ?
Or was in need of some money . Still nice chess set !
A question, rather 2. What's the king and the base size? How many cuts are there in queens' crown?

Thanks. Is this the 1950 fisher dubrovnik? I can see that the rook & queen is bit different in what is shown in Camaratta website?
Thanks. Is this the 1950 fisher dubrovnik?
It is not. It's a 1970's reissue from an unknown workshop.

I wish it was that simple ![]()
The truth is that I have been scouting the area for years. There are simply not that many left. But yes, I am fortunate to live not more than 50 km away from four original 1950 Dubrovnik sets in perfect condition.

Yes. I documented all four sets on my blog at http://www.bestchessmenever.com/blog/.
1. GM Stojan Puc's set, currently on display in the offices of Noj workshop in Brezovica, Slovenia. Obtained in somewhat poor condition but undamaged. Cleaned and restored to old glory.

2. Set given to an arbiter at 1950 Dubrovnik Olympiad. In perfect condition. In care of his family in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

3. GM Milan Vidmar's set, gifted to him as chief arbiter at the Olympiad. Some damage to a couple of pieces, restored to perfection by Alan Dewey, operation financed by yours truly. In care of his son in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

4. GM Vasja Pirc's (of Pirc opening fame) set in pristine condition, never used. In care of his son in Idrija, Slovenia.

None of these are for sale. Give it up. :-)

Currently, Slovenia has the street cred for authentic Dubrovnik designs. Someday, Fischer’s own Dubrovnik set will resurface and find its way to this forum.

Would you happen to know what woods were used on the folding boards.
The Frames seem to be of walnut - but the light and dark squares seem to be of different woods...
If I had to guess; Light square maple? and dark square..?
Would you happen to know what woods were used on the folding boards.
Sorry, I do not have this information.
