Here is a picture of the bottom...It is solid throughout so it pretty much looks like the top. He puts the better looking wood surface on top.

I had this made with 2.5" squares to go with my 4.4" king set.

His work is mostly custom order. I don't see any folding boards on his website. If you have a design, you could try to send it to him and see if he can make it. That is what I did with this board as it was not normally something he made.
Nice, I have one of his raised platform boards and it's the crown of my collection. The quality of his work is absolutely top-notch.
