annotated chess book recommandation

Yelow,

I'm looking for a annotated chess book that isn't in descriptive (it's a shame but every time i try i just have hard time to follow or concentrate), doesn't emphasize to much on 1000 variations and suited for intermediate club player (1300-1900)? Ideally having also some more modern games (post 2006), but that's optional, the classic are classics for good reasons happy.png

I've read Logical Chess my Chernev (about a good year ago) which was very good. But today i've the feeling i'd like to get more of a annotated book. I more recently also read master on the chessboard by Reti, which is excellent too

I use annotated chess book (along with tactic book) as only source of study (more fun)

What annotated book (there are so many!) could you guys recommend me?

Thanks for the tips.
I'd prefer to stay with game collections:

Seirawan's brillancie book was very interesting, sadly hard to find in my book store and not in Kindle..
Chess strategy move by move features only one game with the english and none of the queens indian or scandinavian which are my go to. But it does look interesting.
Nunns books look a little too advance and heavy in sub lines
Giants of chess strategy looks very interesting, unfortunatly it look like it's skipping quite often the opening phases...
Simple chess seems to focuse more on positions and stragic points that whole games (i do have heard a lot of good from it).

I did some research and here are the books i consider with my criterium and available in Kindle format, feel free to toss in your 2cents!:

Simple attacking plan
Chess for Hawks
Most instructive game ever played
Gulko's lesson from a grandmaster

New york 1924 by Alekhine

Zurich 1953
My best games of chess by Alekhine

I'm most interested on Zurich 1953, one of the two alekhine book i mentionned and Gulko's book.

"Chess: The Art of Logical Thinking From the First Move to the Lastby Neil McDonald.  See also an Irving Chernev classic "The Most Instructive Games of Chess Ever Played" and "The Mammoth Book of the World's Greatest Chess Games" by Burgess, Nunn & Emms.  Extremely instructive game collections all.

would you say that "most instructive game" is a plus (or more advanced) than logical chess move by move?
I'm thinking adding to my list "the world most instructive amateur game book" even though it's different i like the concept.

Let me ask you - why Kindle format? I switched 2 years ago to Forward Chess app - it's a book + interactive chess board. https://forwardchess.com/

Regarding annotated game collection available for this app you can have a look at Chess Evolution books: https://www.chess-evolution.com/

  • Most exciting games of 2016
  • Most stunning victories of 2016
  • Best attacking games of 2012-2015
  • Best fighting games of 2012-2015
  • Positional masterpieces of 2012-2015
  • Most interesting draws of 2012-2015

I would say the book is neither a plus or a minus.  And neither more or less advanced.

Also, from what I have seen by reading chess book reviews on Amazon, in general most chess books are poorly rendered in the Kindle format.  For example, diagrams being on different pages from the text that they refer to, among other things.  You will have to experience that for yourself to understand what I mean.  Be sure to read the reviews on Amazon by those who have purchased the books of interest to you in Kindle format (the format is identified in the header of the review).

They are coming with desktop version for Windows/Mac soon. I received a beta version for testing a week ago.

I understand that it’s a question of personal taste, but I have stoped using paper/Kindle books completely - for me it’s incomparable to what e-books from Forward Chess have to offer.

Overlyunskilled

Very true, i did get samples of the books i mentionned

Unfortunatly i have to exclude zurich 1953 because the diagram are quite bad as the "my best games by alekhine".
The art of logical thinking has also quite bad diagrams unfortunatly

The other have good annotations, review and diagrams:

New York 1924
Chess for hawks
Lessons with a grandmaster
Understanding chess move by move
The most instructive game of chess (i wasn't too impressed by the sample but it was just a taste of the 18 first move of the first game)
Simple attacking plan

And the world most instructive amateur game book

Novagames

ahh so start reading with one!good luck

Overlyunskilled

I will, have you read some of them? I guess they all have great reviews, is there one that you (you all) would recommend me for later, or isn't a necessary follow up to the two i already have

Novagames

hmmmmmmmm what about world most instructive amateur game book.It is a chess book right!?
