Arlindo Vieria reminds us of a time when every country had a national set, made by indigenous craftsmen, and reflecting aspects of national character. Last week we honored Spanish sets on our Facebook collector pages. This week, we turn to German sets from my collection, prompted by a birthday present that arrived from Singapore courtesy of my dear friend, Chess Praxis. It's none other than the Bayerwald set of the 1960 Leipzig Olympiad, won by the Soviet Union, led by then World Champion Mikhail Tal.

Tal and Fisher played an epic, if imperfect game, a wild Winawer that ended in perpetual check.

Thanks, Chuck enjoyed the stroll through Chess History with the pictures. Great chess games with the giants.
