I have only discovered these threads on historic chess sets recently. They are great. Thank you. It could also be an expensive discovery. I have already purchased one set I read about here ☺  The historic photos are terrific. Can they be purchased from somewhere?

Thanks, Bamboo. I don't know of a vendor for this set. I'd check Ebay.de.

A bit of a gravedig, but I found it surprising that no one mentioned here that Chucks set is distinctly different from the one featured on all of the pictures of the Leipzig Olympiad.

Now we can see it even clearer on the pictures posted by @Kovylkino. Almost all pieces are different from the set posted by Chuck.

Differences on the Leipzig set:

Knights: posture is slightly different, more leaning forward, nose is leaner.
Bishops: more round, less elongated head.
Kings: finial is a simple cross. Chuck's set features more of an Anglo cross finial.

I'll stop here, but I felt it needed clearing up (if anyone still visits this thread). @Burnamos created a post with an nice overview of different Bayerwald sets.

WHAT?! Oh no. The ears...

I didn't need the Philippine Staunton set I got from Holger, but the ears on the knights made me do it. I didn't need the Sándor Bíró set I got from Victor, but the ears on the knights just... I had to. Did I need the Swedish analysis set I just found on eBay (which just cleared customs in NJ this morning)? No. But the ears.

Didn't even know the Bayerwald style existed. Phooey... [opens a tab for eBay]

Heh, heh, heh ... I have quite a few sets because .... I saw some pictures (usually pics of Chuck's or Mike's sets) and off I went in search of one. Even Holger's set - like you, did I need it? Nope, but saw pics here and suddenly I "needed" it.

Post some pics of the Swedish set when you get it in.
