Wood pieces add a lot to chess club ambience compared to plastic.
Best Sets for New Chess Clubs
When we start with a new chess club, and also when we want to re-stock our existing club we go with solid plastic chess sets and vinyl boards. There are sets with hollow pieces that are less expensive but they do not hold up well at all.
I suggest calling either The Chess House or Wholesale Chess for package and/or volume pricing.
When it comes to clocks you again want to get a clock that will hold up without being too expensive. For that the DGT North American has been a standard for a number of years. Wholesale Chess has a clock they have had made that also works well. It is their Advanced clock not the basic one.
Good luck and let us know what you end up getting.
What do you think is the best way for a new chess club just starting out to get tournament style sets cheaply as possible with a good-enough quality? Clocks would be nice as well. Any recommendations?
