Its weird that this forum is about chess books but basically nobody is talking about books.
You want a good beginner book in chess? Well I wrote one. Its in German though but its free. I published it for free on archive.org. But its not only for the beginner. I can garuntee u that if you study my book and the attached pgn-files carefully u will know everything to get a very strong club player level at least. if u want more then u must be very talented and spend much time with chess of course.
But officially I would say there is no good beginner book for chess. But there is a good chess software "Chessmaster" by Ubisoft. As I said you can download it for free. but I dont know if this is legal. This software also has courses for the intermediate player and the advanced player. Its actually the best teaching software for chess ever created. Chessbase products are better for analyzing your games. Although the newer fritz versions are really trash to be honest. I am using Fritz 9 and am satisfied.
Good books for the intermediate player (this means u have already a rating of 1500 or so lets say). and btw your online rating and real rating actually should be the same. if this is not the case something is wrong. either you are underrated in reality what can be. but its very seldom. or you are cheating. that are the only two possibilities why your online rating should be much higher than your real rating.
Siegbert Tarrasch - The game of chess (I d k if this is the correct title in English because I am German)
Aaron Nimzowitsch - My System
Savielly Tartakower - Hypermodern chess game (its actually a book about opening knowledge)
All books by Max Euwe
The most important and most famous are:
"Amature vs Master"
"Amature becomes Master"
"Master vs Master"
Jeremy Silman - Endgame Course
You can also buy other books by Jeremy Silman.
Bobby Fischer - My 60 memoral games
"Cognitiv Chess" by the Russel publisher
If you study these books and you have the talent you can become master. A good modern opening book does not exist. If you are interested in openings I recommend videos on Youtube or the articles on Wikipedia. Its free and much better than books about the topic. Well in the book I wrote for free I have over 100 pgn-files full with opening knowledge. But as I said its in German.
My recommendations are real. I dont know people that give real book recommendations. Most books are trash. The books I mentioned are the best you can buy - as slave. The slavemasters have of course better stuff but you cant buy it.
Sharing your own book and experience is exactly the kind of community spirit that actually does help players improve, rather than endless debate about which book is best.
