Hi,

Do anyone know some good books about minority attack? I play the Queen's gambit and wants to learn more about the minority attack!

Max Euwe's 1st book on the middle game has a whole chapter on it, almost 20 pages  http://www.amazon.com/Middlegame-Book-Static-Features-Algebraic/dp/1880673959/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1253385878&sr=8-1

Neil McDonald discusses it too in his book on strategy:  www.amazon.com/Chess-Secrets-Petrosian-Capablanca-Nimzowitsch/dp/1857445414/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1253386061&sr=1-5

I'm sure there are a lot of others, but those two come immediately to mind

Also another book by Max Euwe: "The Road to Chess Mastery" is pretty thorough in it's coverage of the minority attack. Also it's really great in regards to explaining the usual plans in the Queen's Gambit..

IT'S simple, you got to be a minority then you can empathize with the minority  position, especially the queens gambit. That game is a choker, as the d4, opening does have a twist, the variant would be the English Opening.

I feel Euwe is a vastly under-rated author for the improving club player. His books made a huge difference in my growth in terms of strategical planning.

I especially enjoyed his "Judgment & Planning" which had not only an instructive chapter on the minority attack but also the flip side which is the queenside majority.

A classic to be considered for players of either side of Queen's Gambit is Baburin's "Winning Pawn Structures".

Baburin only deals with the IQP, no minority attack in his (excellent) book ! Smile

Baburin's book should be required for all chess players, period. While the book deals almost exclusively with IQP, I think it is an eye opening book. You learn strategies for types of positions. And the same kinds of strategies apply to certain positions not just from queen pawn openings, but also Caro-Kann, French defense, Sicilian defense, and others.

Does anybody know which Dutch-language book Euwe's The Road to Chess Mastery is a translation of?

He was indeed the greatest!

On the subject of Paul Morphy, please see my biographical novel about Morphy's life at http://www.mattfullerty.com and http://theprideandthesorrow.blogspot.com

The Pride and the Sorrow: Press Release

Paul Morphy's story is a rites of passage tale about a boy who becomes famous by playing chess. It is also a cautionary tale about New Orleans, family pride and a mind who cannot cope with the real world...The Pride and the Sorrow is a cross between Josh Waitzkin's Searching for Bobby Fischer (about a chess prodigy) and Vladimir Nabokov's The Luzhin Defense (about chess causing madness). Paul resists gambling and dueling and despite Morphy family rivalries he takes on the Europeans at their own game. But the red-light district and temptations on the other side of New Orleans are never far away...

The Pride and the Sorrow, the Paul Morphy story

The Pride and the Sorrow: Book Review, June 2008

New Zealand novelist Geoff Cush, a member of the Bookhabit judging panel, had the following to say about the Bookhabit Award 2008: "What made Matt Fullerty's writing stand out, from the very first sentence, was an unusually strong and individual way with words. Taking us into the vanished world of old America and Europe he uses a highly textured language to give an almost physical experience of being in that place and time. Drawing subtle lines between a society top-heavy with leisure and the profligate genius it produced in Morphy, he holds back the historical and personal reckoning while letting it gather and brood like the storm that finally washes away New Orleans. In my view this makes The Pride and the Sorrow a stand-out all rounder in the craft of literary fiction."
