A classic set. I have a tournament version I bought in the late sixties. Nice catch.

Here's my set:

The Pacific Games Cavalier is one of my all-time favorites! USCF sold a ton of them. Once upon a time George Koltanowski endorsed the set in print ads.
These are routinely on eBay and at much lower prices than the Drueke Player's Choice. I like the Cream and Black version ---->>

Hi! I hd 3 of these sets over the years, I got my first one christmas 1971 and took it to the Frankfort Chess club in Philadelphia were George Koltanowski signed the box and then beat 6 blitz games in a row. I sold in in1978 for $ 30.00, it was $19.95 back in 1971 sold at Sears. The I found another on in 1985 at Gamescpe in Berkeley used but in great shape. Now get this I met Bobby Fischer in San francisco in 1990 after the first gulf war playing blitz at Powell and Market
Streets at the cable car turnaround. Yes We used the Cavallier He won then offered to by the set.
He said he had seen them but never got one. He said he liked the white marble tinge for the white pieces and alabaster. In 2002 I picked up a third one from Games of Berkeley in Berkeley and sold it to a collector $45.00 about what one with some ware goes for on ebay right now. I have seen some mint sets selling for $100.00 on ebay so they are out there. Although I do like my HOS set with four queens. This is is a great set to add to one chess set stable.

Only one place you will get a knight that looks like that is the Pacific Game Co. I have the set and it is no where like anything else available today.

Mine is ivory and black. A classic.

Same colors here that I bought sometime back in the mid 70's or maybe late 70's. Still in its original box, I don't think I ever had it out for a spin.

The previous sets that guy advertised were $34.99 shipped maybe the decimal point went wild?
Anyways that set is still not like the Pacific Game Co. set that Crappov posted.

Mike, when I got mine in maybe '69 or '70, I gave my Drueke Player's Choice to a friend.

WOW,this guy should seriously consider publishing a book called "How To Make a Fortune From Selling Chess Sets to Retards".

Yes Mac I have a brand new set and I know when I looked at each piece I had a couple loose weights when brand new. Just wasn't built to last. I will probably sell all 3 sometime this fall the 2 Drueke sets and this set.

I have a cavalier from American Chess equipment. and paid $29.95 plus tax for it at Games of Berkeley Ca. last year. This scammer on ebay seems to come out when these sets are out of stock. I first saw his add on ebay last Christmas. the FOOL! Any way I have own from 1970 four of the Pacific Game Co.'s #1491 sets 4 inch Kings etc. I even sold one back in 1990 to Bobby Fischer for $20.00 bucks. You can find one on bay starting at $25.00 for good used one to $199.95 for a rare shrink wrapped new one.

My set is the same as that pictured in post #7 by Crappov. It is the Cavalier #1491 set by (the now defunct) Pacific Game Co. See my commentary on this set at the bottom of the following blog article...

Hi All - I just received this vintage set and it was less than $35 with shipping
. I must say I am pleasently surprised by the quality of the pieces. Made of "Alabasque" TM but can't find a link for that lol. The lighter pieces have toned with some gold swirling which is interesting. It is weighted and the box states it is approved by the USCF. The board is way too small and just a simple cardboard folder. 4" Kings as well. I remember my Aunt and Uncle bringing this set for visits back around 1970. Never got to touch it though lol. Hope it isn't to low end for a post
.
