The only difference is mine isn't polished. I'm guessing it was unfinished to begin with. The seller told me he had waxed them.. some of the wax is visible in the eyes of the dark knight and on his mane. I wasn't sure if it had to be polished to be considered a B210.

I agree with Michael. It is a current design of a size 6. The B210 which according to WalterBiensur was probably just a reference number used in the UK. The reference number referred to a size 6 set from the late 80s to 90s. The difference between the “B210” and the modern size 6 lies in the design of the king and queen, rooks, bishop and knight. The biggest factors I would say is the queen’s small dimple on her crown, the thin cross on the king, and the top of the rook. The bishop’s head is also different and there are some differences in the knights beak and a few other things.

Here is my antiqued version which incidentally did not come with the B210 reference number on the box.

Here is @Audioq’s non-antiqued B210 set.

Here is @Ronbo710’s antiqued B210 set.

Thanks for that reply @MCH818. The bishops are actually so different! I hadn't spotted that. I'm still very happy with these and I think the large ball on the queen is growing on me. However, I'll be keeping my eyes open for some of the older sets because that King's cross and the finish look amazing!

I have the current 6 and the big sphere on the queen and the different bishop are definitely growing on me. I like it very much but the most important thing is they play excellent handling wise. It's solid and massive set, it will survive any abuse happy.png

Here's what I think of the size 6 set. It's the knight that's most important in locating the period of manufacture...you look at his mane and things become more obvious.

I still have doubts about the period that I identify as +/- 1992, but I am now certain that the model which is identified by certain collectors as the B210 would rather date from mid 1980. It was also used in Belfort in 1988.

Walterbiensur

I think or even affirm that the knights of 1990 should look like this. Others were made right after and apart from the location of the eye, the mane is identical…

I also prefer this king and his cross that you can find on some size 5 models. The subject of queens and all their variants has not revealed all its secrets to me yet.

But here is a photo that you rarely see on the game used in 1990. I hope to be able to photograph the real one in the next days...

That last black and white picture, I hate it when they crop it and left me out again. That Kasparov dude was a tough cookie btw.

Btw 2, I should receive size 4 tomorrow, it's with that eyes below the ears. When there is sun in the weekend I'll make picture of it.

Walterbiensur

Exactly, maybe you were also on this one, could you locate it? I took it in Amsterdam last year ;-)

TheOneCalledMichael

You see that white Aegon pillar? Exactly, I was behind it. There was a table there with free food.

magictwanger

Free food still available?wink

Walterbiensur

Somewhere in France in the 70's, without @TheOneCalledMichael. Have a look on the black knight ;-)

TheOneCalledMichael

Ah the 70s, no tax, no job no responsibilities...yes those were the days!

@buddymagic I'm sure there is but I'm on the blacklist now 😒

TheOneCalledMichael

Oh forgot, yes the knights are chubby aren't they? Bit unusual.

These are Chavet's first one-piece knights, pictured in post #1

TheOneCalledMichael

Do you have two pieces knights? I don't think I have one.

Walterbiensur

TheOneCalledMichael

I meant with the regular Chavet knights? Or were those always have been one piece from the beginning? I thought I've read Chavet started to make one piece knight in the 2nd half of 20th century.

Walterbiensur

It was at the beginning of the 70s that Chavet introduced his first one-piece knights with this type of mane. #241

TheOneCalledMichael

Got it today, size 4.

Been reading the entire thread and it's ... overwhelming to say the least.  Small linguistic question but I've seen some knight designs referenced as "flushed" on several occasions and it eludes me what is actually meant by that (not a native english speaker)

Walterbiensur

en français peut-être ?
