Chavet N° 8

Beautiful set!
Yes sure ;-) - Thank you !
It is actually more like St. #7 than #8 by the size of King 102 mm. What square size would you use that set on? Does 2.2" ~56 mm fit well or it's too crammed ?

Thank's, well seen ;-) Can't change the title.
The set arrived with a 55 mm chessboard (@Bamboo58 from a Friend in France)… it's "limit limit".

Going by chavet specs of 153/8 which is 102mm KH, mister Walter's set is an 8 definitely, but from different series. I think his is series 253/8 while the picture above is 253/10.

Oh right! Yours is not coated, yes it's probably 153/8.
edit: but wait, your queen is from the 253 series, could it be there are versions out there without coating? Or the previous owner put a coating on the pieces of 253/10? I've seen before where the previous owner put a coating by themselves for whatever reason, also on the chessboards btw.

I think the number given has nothing to do with the Queen. Look on the box, its queen is on the right ...
The numbers would relate only to the size and finish of the game and / or the box, at least initially.
And if I went to the end of my reasoning, the 253/5 should have another number, because the box is not in beech.
And when I look at this image, I also tell myself that the classification set up was not the main concern of the Chavet house. There was certainly first of all the urgency of production with the quality of the finish.

I meant with other 253 series is there are 2 253 series out there. One is the chavet colored one and clearly has the word chavet on it. The other is by unknown maker but has the chavet style of numbering. There was a thread here with a set that some of the pieces resembles Lardy's and the other pieces Chavet. Nobody can concludes which one is it so the concensus it's a Jura set lol but the numbering is in chavet style though.
Edit: found that thread

Ok ! You know what ? As soon as possible, I will take a trip to Lyon (France) to see these marvels with my own eyes, specially the Red Queen on the right !!
