Chavet N° 8

Almost ;-). Just a little Chavet 8, with its famous bulging glass eyes. Really curios

Nice set! I don't really prefer the eyes but otherwise it is a good set. The knights have amazing details which I really like a lot. What size is this?

I'm waiting to have it in my hands, but the seller had specified 110 mm for the King and 56 mm for the pawns, it would be a little more than Chavet 8, it doesn't matter, given the variation I observe on the subject sizes ...

Or between 4 1/3 and 4 1/2 inch. The caliper will prevail.

I will certainly resell it, since it was accompanied by a 120 mm Lardy, varnished, probably from the 70s, and especially because I already own a Charvet St. 8 ...

My only fear is finding the right board!

I am not rich, and even if I was, I will continue to buy what I like, not necessarily what has value for the market ;-) then resell the rest ...

Not easy to demystify things, but interesting to get down to it ;-)

Since I use these large sizes, I feel like Gulliver when I open a box with a no.5 ;-) My children also like it, although it is true that with such a size it is necessary to take a step back to better observe what is happening on the chessboard, unless you have very long arms.

Ah, the famous B210 ;-) I don't have any to sell and even less to play! I admit that the few copies that I have been able to discover here, and their history, do not leave me at all insensitive. If the opportunity presents itself, I will be sure to share it with you. Truly.

group hug !!! (...post #12)

Only one row per set, for a Chavet forest. And at the end, a Lardy sequoïa ;-)

10 - 8 - 3 - 2 - 8 - 8 - 4 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 5 - 5 - 2 - 10 (before and after 1989)

😍

This is a brilliant setup, if you don't mind I'll try to replicate this with my chavets happy.png

Walterbiensur

Yes ;-)

Walter and Michael - I am envious of both of your collections and again, thanks for taking the time to show us all. 👍

I think there is the age of the games but also the finish. I put them in an order that I think is just chronologically.
I don't think there were any knights of this type until the 1970s, and I'm more and more convinced of that.

I love some ad on e..y whose boxes and games are waxed like old-fashioned way ;-) just to make them « vintage ».

Thanks Walter! I asked because you seem to order them from dark to light. Also, I recently picked up a 92 mm Chavet set. The white pieces are pretty dark. It is much darker than my modern early 2000s set. I see other size 6 Chavet sets that have lighter white army and darker black army than the one I just picked up. I was just wondering if the darkness of the pieces along with the design might indicate the age of the set.

Very Nice !

Just look at #80. You will find all the finished version, or this last picture ;-)

Thanks Walter! That makes total sense.

And if we had to quibble: should we measure or not the presence of the felt when it exists?
The answer is in the question ;-)

5 x 8 + 1 x 10. Soon with boards 😇
