I would wait until their big Black Friday sale near Christmas. They usually offer 30-35% discounts on everything. They should plenty in stock by then.
Chess Bazaar Backorder
Is there a time to buy or another way to minimize the chance of getting a set with quality problems?
From what I have seen, the first or second run of a set is pretty safe to buy. The problems that I have seen reported come with later run sets.
I know that it is certainly a minority of their sets that have problems. However, there are more reports of problems on this forum with their sets than others especially in the last number of weeks. And often times those reports also speak of problems with customer service.
I don't like to gamble in buying Chess sets, especially when the cost is greater than $100.

Eyechess, chessbazaar is coming up with the wider bases of Romanian set as suggested by goodknightmike, so that's why they aren't taking any further order of the Romanian set as per the present dimensions.

Speaking of chessbazaar and thanks to GoodNightMike I have acquired 3 great new sets for a great price point. Although one of the pieces came in a bit damaged it will soon be replaced with a new pristine replacement. The other sets are shown on 2 MTM boards and look like they were married to them. The sets are the 1950's Soviet-Latvian antiqued set, The Romanian-Hungarian Sheesham set and the Old English Vintage ebonized set. Thank you kindly Mike for all your help with my picks.
I do not understand the Chess Bazaar Backorder situation.
They came out with their new Romanian set in Sheesham and went out of stock pretty quickly. I believe it was then on backorder where a person would receive 25% off ordering it on backorder.
It went out of stock again. Both times it went out of stock very quickly making me wonder how much of a stock they put in each time, but that's a different discussion.
Now when I went to that order page, of course the Sheesham set is out of stock but there is no Backorder option. What is there is a Notify Me link. I don't see any discount for waiting via the Notify Me option as there was with the Backorder.
Why do they not have this on Backorder anymore?
And on another note, it seems the problem pieces come with later issues of their sets. So now, I feel as if I might be gambling if I order one of these sets. What do you guys think?
