The Art of Defence by  Lyev Polugayevsky

This is an older title it covers everything you'd want to know about chess defence such as building a blockade, simplification, active defence and counter attack, trench warfare filled it's with exercises and tests.

If you work through this book dilegently for months and master what Polugayevsky teaches you........

1) You will improve your defensive skills no question about that

2) You will become a confident defensive player and you'll see far more positions in chess are capable of being saved even when a game looks like a loss and there seems no hope of winning or surviving

This book is written for players rated around 1500-2300 it won't go over your head or is too advanced to understand

Highly recommended!

Indeed, this book is all things to all people!

But to be fair to the OP, I googled for reviews of this book and they were very positive.

But I cannot justify buying yet another chess book that I'll start and not finish.
