I think most manufacturers are situated in Central to North India (Delhi, Assam). I live in the south and dont know of any around here.
Chess Bazaar offers many nice sets of Staunton design. Its your best bet without paying a lot for shipping. Canadians & Brits have to pay high shipping on sets from the USA as well as a Value Added TAX from their cheeky Governments.

I looked there but it was not quite what I wanted, either being priced high once you reach 3.75" pieces, or the pieces were not to my liking. Also, they dont sell plastic tournament sets or tournament bags or anything apart from wood sets and boards.
Did you try BK Chess for a set? Its hard to believe that you cant find at least 6-12 chess dealers in India. You might try different search engines.

Bk Chess?
I googled and found Beekay Chess Exports, which unfortunately is in New Delhi and doesn't have a website. I also stumbled upon chessncrafts(dot)com which shows all its products price range 0-0 USD but I think I will send them an email and see if they reply.

The thing is all the stores you mention, like the House of Staunton, plus chess bazar and other places, they all get their sets from India. So basically they go from India to USA and you want to buy them on USA paying $50 for the round back, plus the $50 that is include on the price they had to pay to bring it from India and so on.
Also the manufacturers are not in Delhi or Assam, they are in Amritsar. Wich acordenly to my map still north.
You have not idea how much I envy you for being already in India, I would have by now a 50 times better chess collection for the same money I spent on my sets, and maybe I would be runing an online store reselling from India some sets.
Anyway, try to find chess manufacturers in Amritsar. that is the place to go.

Amritsar is way up north. It'd be much easier for me to just pay 50$ for shipping than to go to Amritsar for a set.

That is the frustrating part. Atleast if the manufacturers had their own website or something I could order from there.
This is a couple I found in a quick search:

Will update you on that!
I have tried to order chess equipment from websites like the House Of Staunton, Wholesale Chess and ChessCafe but had to back out due to >50$ shipping to India. I looked at Chessbazaar too but it didn't have what I wanted. Does anyone know of a good website where I can buy good chess equipment without too much shipping charges when shipping to India? Thank you for the responses.
Dude, I don't agree with your statement that chessbazaar lacks in chess equipments because as far as I have researched, chessbazaar has more designs if compared to any other popular US stores like H.O.S, regencychess, the chess store etc & their prices for Indian customers are very low. They are situated in north India & I guess they have their own manufacturing unit. Though I am a big fan of weighted wooden chess sets & I like to play with them. In my recommendation plastic chess set feels cheap, and you won't find any improvement in your game whatsoever. I'll suggest you that if you want plastic chess set then search for it on ebay. You will find very good & competitive price there else wooden chess sets are always preferable.
Cheers!

You are right. When I first looked at chessbazaar, I made two searches and stumbled upon one video regarding chessbazaar, namely:
http://www.chessbazaar.com/chess-pieces/economy-chess-pieces.html?kings_height=7#
http://www.chessbazaar.com/catalogsearch/result/?cat=0&q=tournament
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5M8TWwmqrU
But now, after your comment, when I went to look again I saw things like
http://www.chessbazaar.com/chess-pieces/economy-chess-pieces.html?kings_height=7_8_9
Next time, I will probably order from chessbazaar. But now I have already paid Amritsar Ivory Works for a set, so I will see how this works out.
Thank you for your feedback.
