Chess Set Origin and Value

Hey All,

Just wondering if anyone has seen a chess set like this one and has any kind of info to offer up.  My wife bought it an estate sale but I can find any markings on it. The pieces are heavy but have a definitive odor, and I'd guess they may be carved from soapstone.  I'm not as concerned about the value, I don't think it's really worth that much, but would be interested to know if anyone has any good guesses as to its origin?

Nice looking theme set. We have a couple theme set collectors here so, check back often. Soapstone has a slight Talc smell.

This looks like a pretty normal Chinese set. It maybe be soapstone but it looks more like a composite/resin type material to me. You might try sticking it somewhere minor with a hot needle, see if it melts. You can find similar sets on eBay any day of the week. I don't feel it's worth anything as a collector's item. If you like it it's worth something to you, though.
