Isle of Lewis set in the western, "Silverado." Cleese is the sheriff and even though his deputy is sitting across the table, Cleese rotates the board and plays himself - the deputy doesn't understand chess.

on the TV there are many scenes involving Kevin Spacey at a Chess Board in the series "..House Of Cards.."

Really? Must have missed it. I've seen, on that series, a set in one of the bedrooms in the White House residence, but never saw anyone playing on it. (And of course, the pieces were set up wrong.)

This is a clip from Stalag 17 - the German soldier  and Peter Graves (who is a German agent pretending to be a prisoner) use a hollowed out chess piece to exchange messages.

Great movie if you have never seen it.

Here is a shot of the game (chess?) pieces from the 1963 "Jason and the Argonauts."

Here's a picture from an episode of Columbo I saw the other day. This shows the character called "Steven Spellburg" - a self-confessed boy-genius - playing chess against a robot that he programmed. The robot - like all robots on television in the 1970s - was the same as the one out of "Forbidden Planet"

This was also one of the first episodes directed by a young kid (very talented) named Steven Spielberg.

I stumbled across this trailer - which features some chess pieces prominently,

I think I will order this movie - looks like it is up my alley.
