IMHO- Pandolfini’s books are pretty good for the 1200 -1400 range (except for Chess Opening Traps).

Allygirl, Thank you for your input! I didn not miss it I just thought that I should have a closer look at your advice before responding.
Happy New Year!
Silman's Reassess Your Chess. There was supposed to be a heavily revised 4th edition at the end of 2007, but I don't see it anywhere. I would recommend this for the 1500+ range (USCF).
I don't have any personal experience, but I always hear good things about Max Euwe's two volumes on the Middlegame.
For 1600+ Michael Stean's "Simple Chess" is a terrific book.
Time with strategy books should be spent sparingly until you are proficient at holding on to your material. Of course, we'll all drop pieces sometimes, but if simple blunders up through 2-3 move tactics aren't very rare in your games, time is best spent drilling tactics.
What books on chess strategy would you recommend for players in the rangers: 1200-1400, 1400-1600 and 1600-1800?
Which book on strategy do you find over rated?
