Hi,

Anybody with ChessBase care to share some tips? I have updated Mega Database 2013 and wish to have search for duplicate games but not sure what options to select. I've updated the DB using the official chessbase updates, do not know if "Always delete first" or "Keep 'better' game" is the better option... I've tried searching in the official site, google, etc and no clear guidance is given...

Keep better game mean it'll keep the anotated game, if you are in chessbase 12 hit F1 key to see the Help file, then go to search and type "double", you'll see the topic about finding and deleting double games.

From the manual : "Keep 'better' game

The better game is the game with more header details like Elo ratings, publisher source, first names, etc."

You can find some help on youtube too about chessbase look for Steve Lopez videos on chessbase or fritz.

Be careful to check if the games are really doubles games before deleting them.

Thanks, I had read the Chessbase Manual but it was not very clear if selecting better game it will delete the first one if it's all the same with the game headers. Also I had updated the db from the official sources and wanted to ensure I was keeping the really better version. I selected delete the second game and fingers crossed...

Well if you selected keep the best version it's good, be careful when checking the other boxes, such as moves or headers. If you check ignore, there is more chances for similar but not identical games to be deleted.

You can do a backup of your database before doing modifications, and you can verify before deleting the doubles that they are really the same games by manually comparing them.

Last but not least, the database is already huge, some doubles will not change that fact so I'd say if you're not sure of what you're doing don't bother with deleting doubles, they'll not hinder performance.
