Chessbase without subscription still useful?

I would like to use chessbase to gather all my games in one convenient place, plus the large database of existing games is also appealing. I don't have a lot of money though, and the chessbase site mentions subscriptions. Is this software useful without a subscription, and is it not going to nag me every time I start it up?

Chessbase itself isn't cheap but once you have it you are fine. I know tons of titled players who bought chessbase and go a few years without upgrading it. Especially at the club level where we don't need to very latest databases.

I use it as you’re describing, just to organize my games, analyze, and consult the database, without a subscription. So far it’s fine, everything works and there’s no nagging at all.
