This would be like a side feature, unessecary, but cool to have.

The idea is really good, but what if someone makes Karpov 1975, and Fischer 1975, makes them play a match and Fischer wins? Karpov's fans would go ballistic!

Yeah, they should allow you to

1. Pit bots against other bots easily

2. Play any bot in any custom position or variant

3. Customize your own bots

4. Have a monthly contest for top five (or other?) customized bots.

That'd be really cool.

2 would require a completely different infrastructure. You currently can play from custom positions but the engine can't play variants, other than 960.

On lichess we can make Bots but with coding expertise.

The bots here are all based on Komodo. While it would technically be possible to just allow modifying the engine parameters, it's probably unlikely, and if it ever was done, would probably be only for a personal bot no one else could view or use (and games probably couldn't be saved in archives)

What's "Komodo" I'm guessing it's a computer program?

I feel like it’d be a nice feature to be able to play games with an AI version of someone. For example, you can type in a username, and then it’ll recognize that person’s skill level and playing patterns, and create an AI that’s just like them. That’s probably really creepy and will never be added, though.
